Description

Is human activity to modernize the world doing us more harm or benefiting us?

Thank you, Best.Korea for joining in as a contender.
Modernization trends have reduced the mortality rate of living species in the world, which I support with three points:
  • Clearance of land for modern human habitation destroys ecosystems. The United Nations at some point noted the disappearance of indigenous people, wild species, etc. and put in place ways to preserve indigenous populations. Many traditional cultures and todays believe "taking care of the land is preserving the environment with all in it and society." Modernization is replacing the natural with man made buildings and industry, then abandoning them as they move to new places.
  • Diet: More than 50% of the world population of humans and animals is eating processed foods instead of natural organic foods. Consequently, processed foods fill people with energy but starve the body of natural organic nutrients, leading to man-made nutritional diseases causing death in some cases. Hippocrates stated, "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine thy food." It is my belief that if natural organic foods were made affordable to all, the majority of current diseases would be eradicated.
  • Human relationships and interactions have changed as cell phones are affordable to all. Personal observation findings that people living in urban areas appear stressed, in a hurry, juggling several jobs to meet their perceived goals. Today, there is less physical interpersonal interaction, and we find people with a huge number of online followers, yet they are as lonely as it gets. Stress and loneliness result in psychological diseases shortening our lives.
In conclusion, people destroying the natural order of earth's ecosystem in the name of modernization, urbanization, or civilization have reduced mortality rates of living organisms, including humans.
