Description

We have decided as a society to separate elite sports by sex.....not gender. The reasons for this are obvious. Men tend to be stronger and faster than women due to their biology so to allow women to compete we have separated men from their competition.

Transgender females were born male with all the advantages men get from birth thru puberty.

We need to protect the space we made for biological women in sports by banning female trans athletes

Transgender female athletes have excelled in competitions with biological females.  Lia Thomas was ranked 200th as a male swimmer and won the national championship the first year she competed as a woman.  She towered over her opponents and clearly had the male biological advantage

Topic: "Female trans athletes have an unfair advantage".

My opponent didnt define "an unfair advantage".

We shouldnt confuse "advantage" with "an unfair advantage".

There are women who have an advantage compared to other women. For example, even with same training, some women simply end up much much better than others.

Those who trained from childhood have a great advantage over those who didnt.

Some women simply start with much better body and much better intelligence.

So either everything is unfair, either female trans are fair.

I am gonna go with "female trans are fair".

We have decided as a society that the advantages men get biologically at birth would create an unfair advantage in competition with women.  We have set that as the standard for fair competition.

Some people are born with genetic advantages like height, strength or speed.  We have decided as a society that within your sex we do not classify those as unfair advantages

Now one group wants to change the rules we have set as a society and allow transgender women to compete with biological women.

If sex no longer matters let ALL men and women compete together

Everyone gets advantages or disadvantages biologically at birth.

Some people are born with genetic advantages like height, strength or speed.  We have decided as a society that within your sex we do not classify those as unfair advantages.
So in other words, you randomly pick what is fair and what is unfair.

Now one group wants to change the rules we have set as a society and allow transgender women to compete with biological women.
That doesnt explain why the rules you set are fair.

If sex no longer matters let ALL men and women compete together.
No. What matters is the category by results. For example, 7 year old will not compete against a 20 year old, even if they have same sex. This is because we know that 20 year old would win almost every time. Therefore, the standards are set according to results, not according to some random picking.

Therefore, if female trans shows similar results as other females, there is no reason to not allow female trans to compete with those other females. If results are similar, there is no advantage for female trans. There are cases where results are similar. There are cases where there is no advantage for female trans.

It is nonsense to claim that every female trans is better than every female non-trans.

I have not set the rules.  We have as a society and sports have been separated by sex for a long time.

Now a new group comes along and wants to change that rule

I see no compelling evidence to change that rule unless we also allow men to compete with women.

Which would be the end of female elite sports

10 year old trans female girl is just as good and just as smart as a 10 year old non-trans female girl, but not more smarter or more better as you may assume. So they should be allowed to compete.

My concern is less for 10 year old children than it is for high school and above.  A high-school or college athlete may be competing for tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships.  They may be competing for a spot on the Olympic or national team.  That's not to mention endorsement deals or future professional sports.

There is a lot of money in competitive sports at that level and fairness should be the highest goal

Do you concede that a trans female girl can have similar results as non-trans female girl?

I think a male athlete can have similar results to a female athlete.

Yet we separate sports by sex .....not by ability alone.

If we are going to eliminate sex as what divides competition then men and women should just compete together

Which would mean women never win championships again

Well, sports are to be separated in groups by results.

Some trans female girls have similar results as non-trans female girls.

Therefore, no need to separate those trans female girls from non-trans female girls.
