To quote the Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC) about the death penalty in the United States:

Since 1973, 192 former death-row prisoners have been exonerated of all charges related to the wrongful convictions that had put them on death row.

It is now clear that innocent defendants will be convicted and sentenced to death with some regularity as long as the death penalty exists.
Using the death penalty "in more cases," as proposed by my opponent, would result in the execution of more innocent people, which is unacceptable.
