During WWII, the country that hadn't been involved in the war dropped a devastating bomb on Japan twice. Many believe that the Pearl Harbor Bombing was the reason for retaliation from the US. I will be stating why the two atomic bombs “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” should never have been dropped.

To contextualize, Japan has been the center of attention in Asia during the war. Japan felt the right to expand and modernize just like the west. Japan meddled in Chinese territory, and committed what is globally known as the “Rape of Nanjing”. 300,000 Chinese civilians were raped, tortured, and killed. The US recognized Japan as a possible threat, and embargoed oil supplements from Japan. Japan, 80% reliant on oil from the US, was now forced to make the decision between going to war with the US, or withdrawing troops from China. This was when Japan turned into a fascist country, and Japan chose to respond by bombing Pearl Harbor. As a response, the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The US had no reason to intervene in the war between China and Japan. Therefore, the fault was on the US that Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor.

I think that the opposition is supporting what I have stated. He should be arguing why the US SHOULD have dropped the nuclear bomb on Japan. Rather, he decided to state the obvious that nuclear bombs are "bad". Not only does this have insufficient evidence, but it also is supporting the fact that the US should not have bombed Japan.

The second argument:
- Retaliation levels from the US outweigh the actions of Japan by a landslide.
               - Not only did the dropping of the nuclear bombs kill over 310,000 innocent civilians, but it also left high levels of radiation in the areas it exploded.
- This clearly is immoral, and the irony is:
               - There was not much thought put into the bombing. --> The US didn't even hesitate to put such a devastating impact on so many people.
-->It took very little time for the US to decide that they will use nuclear weapons. This shows the immorality of the US, and also the fact that the action had been done so haphazardously, like the snap of a finger.

The atom bombs were completely inhumane. Before the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, several tests were held in the deserts of Mexico. Accounting for the fact that America knew the devastating effects and yet deliberately took away the lives of children, the use of atomic bombs was not moral. According to the Los Angeles Times, Japan was officially planning to raise a white flag later that August. Insofar as the two atomic bombs weren’t a necessity to end the war, they shouldn't have exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. America chose to turn a blind eye on the effects the bomb would take on thousands, and therefore the bombs were unethical.
