Description

Geopolitical realtions between Greece, US and Turkey

Round 1
Pro
#1
A) Greece is a country located in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Greece largely controls the Agean Sea and is a hub of commerce and trade in the Balkans. It holds several different NATO and US bases as long as has very important alliances with Egypt, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Spain and one could say Russia, before the war in Ukraine. Greece is a member of NATO and the E.U Greece has a clear record of no war crimes and a respect to diversity and human rights. Greece, with its strategic position, loyal allyhood (in contrast to Turkey who has bought S400 missiles from Russia, constantly threatens and doesn't respect Greece and strays away from NATO) and respect to democratic values and human rights, is a far superior ally to the U.S.A.

In order to negate the resolution, I only have to show that Turkey is a more pivotal ally than Greece to the US.

Pivotal: "of crucial importance in relation to the development or success of something else."

As my opponent has not defined what the "something else" is, I will assume that it is the overall benefit of the US.

First of all, Turkey offers more economically than Greece. Turkey's GDP is $819 billion, while Greece's GDP is only $214 billion. [1] [2] Not only does this show that the Turkey has more economic power in an important region, Turkey also trades far more with the US as well. [3] [4]

Second of all, Turkey has a more powerful military as well. Turkey had the 15th ranked military in the world in 2022, in contrast to Greece, which had the 30th ranked military. [5] [6]

Although historically the US has had friendlier relations with Greece, this doesn't change the fact that strategically, economically, and militarily, Turkey is a more pivotal ally to the US.

"It holds several different NATO and US bases as long as has very important alliances with Egypt, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Spain and one could say Russia, before the war in Ukraine"

So does Turkey - it has good relations with most neighboring countries, and is an crucial ally of NATO.

"Greece has a clear record of no war crimes and a respect to diversity and human rights."

It's important to note that this debate refers to which country is a more pivotal ally, not which one is a nicer country. Turkey is simply a far more valuable partner in terms of its usefulness to the United States' foreign relations.

Anyway, extend all R1 arguments.
