Description
Religious people are deluded in their belief in God.
Round 1
Religion provides nothing that of value that cannot be gained through other means such as literature or science. There is no proof in the existence of God and anything of value gained through faith is not proof there is a God. It's better not to believe in something without evidence. Fin.
Preamble:
I shall prove my case on two fronts, which shall be given their own sections below
Burden of Proof
This debate is about the basis for peoples belief in God, not if they are ultimately correct.
Definitions
To avoid semantic issues…
Merriam-Webster defines the following:
I. Inheritance:
I shall prove my case on two fronts, which shall be given their own sections below
- Inheritance
- Value
This debate is about the basis for peoples belief in God, not if they are ultimately correct.
To avoid semantic issues…
Merriam-Webster defines the following:
- Make sense is “to be reasonable” [1].
- God is “a being or object that is worshipped as having more than natural attributes and powers” [2].
It is reasonable for children to believe their parents. To not believe them, leads to various dangers; such as burning one's hand on a hot stove.
This is the primary mode of transmission for religion, as written in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion: There are “clear patterns of transmission of parental religious characteristics to children” [3].
If there's any doubt here, I can easily break this into a couple syllogisms.
Even pro agrees there's value gained by being religious. That he insists it could be gained from other means, does not guarantee it would be gained by other means.
Belief in God gives easy access to a community of people instilled with similar ethics. More importantly, it results in living longer [4].

Sorry you missed R2. Still, not much to catch up on.

Oh. I thought you were speaking french when you said Fin. I was thinking that you were someone I advertised DART to and it would make sense because that person is from a french speaking area.
Because the planets would orbit around the sun, but in a more random way. They all wouldn't be flat relative to the sun. Pluto actually has a 6 degree orbit relative to the others. But it's mostly flat, and I see no reason to believe that this isn't a sign.

What does Fin mean?
Why would it?
It would be more shaped like an atom.
If the solar system is not flat what would it be?
Isn't it a sign because otherwise, wouldn't you expect the solar system to not be flat?
How does a flat solar system mean there is a God? I don't follow.
If God doesn't exist, then how come the solar system is flat and doesn't look like an atom? Seems like that's a sign.
