True. But also, when someone says "flat", people imagine something completely flat like a sheet of paper.
Sure it can -- when we say the universe is flat, we don't mean perfectly flat; it has been measured that the universe is flat with a percentage uncertainty of only 0.4% (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shape_of_the_universe). Stating the universe is flat is essentially as accurate as stating that the pyramid of Giza is a pyramid.
Technically, you could define it as flat, since there is no curvature. But can a flat object have round objects (Earth) inside it? I don't think so. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that we don't know the shape of the universe, but it is definetely not two-dimensional.
He is actually correct. The euclidean geometry of the universe is spatially flat.
That's to be expected from the type 1 era.
