Description
This is a debate that we did over Zoom, choosing the topic and selecting the sides at random. We both had 15 min. to prepare after hearing the topic, and 5 min. of prep time during the debate. Loved doing this, and will post the video as soon as this is accepted.
Round 1
Here is the link. I did check, and we caught the entire thing. Looking forward to seeing the votes, and thanks to Tej for the awesome debate. Missed having these so bad.
I didn’t get the chance to say this during the debate, so: thanks so much, Whiteflame, for what was a genuinely enjoyable round. I think you’re one of the strongest debaters this site has to offer and I certainly learned a thing or two about debate strategy.
For what it’s worth, just letting the judges know what the rules and structure we agreed on was:
- We would have 15 minutes of prep time with a randomly generated topic which neither of us knew prior to the start of the 15 minutes, with sides assigned randomly as well (prior to the release of the topic).
- Each of us had three speeches, with 8 minutes per speech, and no new arguments in the final speech (except responding to the previous speech, extending arguments/responses, and crystallizing). There was a 2 minute cross-examination round after each of our first speeches, and we had 5 minutes of prep time in total that we could allocate as we liked.
Thanks again!
This was fun, thanks.
Well, a shame we didn’t get more votes on this. Still, I’d love to hear from other people about how they think this went, even if it isn’t a formal vote. Thanks again to blamonkey for his in-depth analysis and vote, and of course to tejretics for debating me so well on this fascinating debate!
You previously complained of the lack of votes on this debate. There's three days left in the voting window if you wish to take positive action.
We should do more of these.
I see, thank you, However I still think with a transcript, it would be easier
It allows you to keep track of live debates so that you don't need a translation.
I read up on it and looks like a good process
Thanks for the vote and extensive RFD! Much appreciated <3
Have you heard of the concept of flowing? It helps a lot.

You did not come off as harsh at all. I take the positive with the negative, and appreciate it all.
I hope I didn't come off as harsh. It was still a wonderful debate.
Thank you for the vote and the extensive analysis! This is my impromptu-style debate in... well, too long, and I agree with everything you said about structure and time allocation. Gotta get those skills back...
just finished listening, I agree with Dr franklin, it is cool to see great debaters squaring off.

(sorry for caps, had caps lock on)
>They need to put a transcript on the debate
Nah -- there have been many live debates both on this site and on DDO that have been voted on.
All I'm sayong is that if they want people to vote, they need to put a transcript on the debate, also the highschool and college shit is irrlelevent, as I was talking about this website
Yeah, that short time frame can definitely be difficult to work with, but it's also a lot of fun. Several styles of debate use it, and it's incredible to see how arguments build out of such a short period of prep.
That's unfair. It's a quick debate done at the last minute. This is realistic as many college and high school programs have extemporaneous debate categories. It is quite good by those standards.
15 minutes of prep? God, that is insane. That's hardly enough for a three minute speech for me. Kudos
I think this is pretty close to what a DDO/DART round would look like if the debaters had 15 minutes of prep and did it live, lol...
It’s sort of like WS without replies, except more on-flow and much less emphasis on public speaking ability.
what happened to the other live debates?
> "plus no one is voting on this"
It's only been four hours...
plus no one is voting on this
oh nevermind, they could have translated it, but their fucking lazy!
FINALLY EXPERIENCED DEBATORS ACTUALLY DEBATE, ITS A FUCKING REVOLUTION
Thanks! I'm not sure that we decided to go with a specific style here, it's sort of an amalgam. There's some Worlds in there and some NPDA, though we decided against the Opp Block. Cross-ex instead of POIs as well, so it's taking from a bit of everything.
Good debate folks! Is this done in a particular style that I could search up? I am kind of familiar with World Schools, but this seems to be a type of debate I'm unfamiliar with.
