I was thinking anti heroes also early on but that came from getting what I thought was your soft claim wrong. You said "lighter touch" which I thought meant you were claiming light from death note but apparently not since you said you don't consider it scifi and claimed a scifi character. I literally thought you were vigilante, which is obviously not true if Austin is alive
I did soft claim back in DP1, though it wasn’t quite that direct. I’d characterize Death Note as supernatural drama. And yeah, I would have definitely shot Austin if I was the Vig.
Also, while I did give a list of characters, I know at least a couple of likely ones that weren’t on that list, Light included. I won’t specify who else, but I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if there was a TP.
I’ll get to a list of reads when I finish up at work. I don’t believe that Austin as scum would bus Wylted, so I’m currently slightly townreading Wylted, though given that it came after time elapsed, it may have just been a toothless bus.

My guess is so his role can be stolen or something and somebody pointed this out but it makes those who haven't claimed anything inherently suspicious because likely they have information on him that they will adopt for themselves.
So it looks like scum has at least one good claim so we need to do what we should do anyway. Base reads off of behavior not get carried away with nonsense like thematic analysis unless we have a nail in the coffin.

We also have to consider that scum janitor implies that scum weren’t given a fake claim. If what WF says it’s true then it makes sense that they use the janitor here. Normally what I’ve seen is that it’s part of a JOAT on the mafia side. If Austin flips scum it’s likely the other scum could be one of the noobs
