I am not a large sports fan but the groupchats with my friends that clearly are show that this is in fact something intriguing and remarkable.

A meme has sprung up. It goes like this:
China 1:1 Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia 2:1 Argentina
Therefore, China>Argentina
Let the other sports fans that clearly care more than I do talk here.

People are literally gathering on rooftops to jump down. Hope they don't actually do it.

@Dr.Franklin
And England beat Iran 6-2.

And the USA could only manage a draw with Wales.

Not that I'm at all bothered Doc.

Is Ireland in it?

And well done you Saudi Lads.

This thread just got a whole lot more ironic and epic for Saudi in hindsight.

Argentina won.

I don't know what to feel knowing I haven't caught on until yesterday, but at least it is over.

that kind of things usually happen in the first match, the team manager tries a new formation with a weak team, Saudi Arabia in that case, that if doesnt work then it's changed back for the next match.

I can't help but share here a conspiracy theory that popped in my head when I was watching the Croatia vs Argentina match. Why would Croatia's coach put his team to play on the offense if their defensive approach was working very well so far? Why would he expose his defense to a powerful attack like the Argentinian one? Then it became obvious to me, it was all a conspiracy. He wanted to lose, just like Tite (the Brazilian coach) wanted to lose against Croatia.

The evil men of FIFA and Qatar wanted this cup to be remembered as the Messi Cup and that's why they couldn't risk not having him at the finals, so they bribed and blackmailed coaches and referees to help Messi and Co. win this farce. That ridiculous officiating on Argentina vs Netherlands is the greatest evidence, summed to the 5 (five) penalties Messi received as gifts during the tournament to break some records.

It's all a long-term investment in the Messi brand to make him as valuable as Maradona, and make billions on the following decades based on him as myth. That would justify paying Tite to make all he could to help Brazil lose, because against Argentina it would be hard to control those Brazilian boys. Also Croatia played their worst match right before Messi, such a coincidence, no? That final against France was a well-scripted play to fool us all and make the media focus on Messi and Mbappé, while I was absolutely sure all along they would win at the penalties.
