Of course Trump says if you plead the fifth your guilty, but Trump is an idiot.

But if they haven’t done anything wrong, why are so many Republicans pleading the 5th Amendment?

Kelly Ward, head the the Arizona GOP,  is just the latest

Because Republicans believe in the constitution whereas the traitorous Democrats want to destroy the constitutional republic and replace it with a tyrannical democracy.

Right, they want to destroy the constitutional republic by ensuring politicians are elected by the people.

Cause that really answers the question of why republicans keep pleading the 5th...

Again dummy, a republic is a type of country or state. A democracy is a form of government.

The constitution specifically forbids a direct democracy.

Exactly. For guilty people to avoid self incrimination

It protects all people from a tyrannical government that would use their power to torture people for confessions like they did in the 1500's.

Guilt or innocence has nothing to do with a tyrannical centralized government.

"No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

No, to avoid sham trials and coerced confessions. This is based on the idea that if someone is coerced to confess, their confession isn't reliable. At its core, it's an amendment designed to protect the innocent who otherwise might be ensnared by ambiguous circumstances (see Ohio v. Reiner).

This is stupid. Pretty much everyone agrees that a defendent should not be forced to take the stand when on trial. We don't assume they are guilty for not taking the stand and yet they are technically using the 5th amendment to avoid having to take the stand at their trial.

If you think the 5th amendment implies guilt, you shouldn't be on any juries ever

It's also hard to support someone that isn't running for any office. And isn't in any office.

Good point, that was inapropriate, my apologies.

I have a really good reason to be in a really bad mood today, not thinking.

Aren’t Republicans the same people who approved water boarding?

These people are NOT pleading the fifth at a trial. They are trying to avoid a trial for the crimes they committed.

That’s the simple explanation.

A republic is defined as “a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.” Sound familiar? It should.

You see, many of today’s democracies are also republics, and are even referred to as democratic republics. So, the US and France are considered both democracies and republics—both terms point to the fact that the power of governance rests in the people, and the exercise of that power is done through some sort of electoral representation.

The key concept to the word republic is that the leader of this government (or state) is not a hereditary monarch but a president, whether they are elected or installed.

This core idea helps explain in part why autocratic governments like North Korea is officially called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Its citizens vote (or “vote”) on a single candidate. A historical example of a republic is also instructive. The Republic of Venice, a mercantile city-state of the Middle Ages, was led by a doge who was elected by wealthy merchants.
