(No singular)/They/their

Those are plural words.

It/those/its
That/these/(no possessive)

Singular but dehumanising

Ye/You/Your/Yours used to be plural in English as well. Thee/thou/thine were the "correct" singular 2nd person until the 17th century. By contrast, the first known use of the singular they was in the 14th century, in the Middle English translation of William and the Werewolf.

There is no singular 'they' we have had to force it, there is absolutely no utility in not inventing a singular neutral nondehumanising pronoun.

I'm not opposed to a new pronoun, I just wanted to note that "they" has already been used as singular for a longer time than "you" and "you" is widely accepted. Clearly the change from plural to plural/singular isn't insurmountable, and while there is always the growing pains as culture resists change and edge cases are decided, it often happens anyways.
I personally think they is more likely to catch on as the most common nonbinary pronoun over currently proposed alernatives such as xe/xem or ze/zir.

what are you talking about? if we use "they" to reference people, then trans gendered people with their facade may be able to trick unsuspecting victims. We must us "he" for that who is "he", and "she", for only that who is "she".

English ought to actually invent tbe [sic] neutral gender term.

You do not even proof-read your own initial postings. How can anyone take you seriously.

cheers.

now please reply to the topic so I can take you seriously or we'll have a mutual lack of respect for each other... though, I still respect your raw honesty.

Fine. I will engage you on this subject matter.

There is NO need for a so-called "neutral" gender term.

There are only two genders, male and female. And do not come back with that nonsensical social construct BS.

Words have meaning depending on the context in which they are used. Somethings said terms need synonyms. Some alternative word to fit the grammatical narrative that makes sense that otherwise would make no sense if the original term were to be used. It is also a reason why we have and use pronouns in place of proper nouns.

There is NO such thing as "neutral" gender terms, except for snowflake clowns.

I don't see much of a need for a gender neutral term and humans,
But I suppose there do exist organisms where such a term could have more use,

Or we might meet an alien race,
Or become or split off into such.

I don't really feel much a need myself though, expecting aliens to be far away,
And not being highly involved in biology science.

. . .

I'm not even sure biology science cares much,
I imagine they'd just use the organisms species name, or they.

There is NO need for a so-called "neutral" gender term.
Even if you don't support nonbinary people's desire to use other pronouns, what do you use when the gender is legitimately unknown? Personally, I default to they and have ever since I was a child because I was told it was really rude to call a boy she or vice versa.

There is NO “unknown” gender.

There are ONLY two.

Male.

Female.

There is NO “unknown” gender.
I'm not talking about social gender norms in the slightest. I'm talking about a circumstance where a person's biological sex is unknown to you for any reason. For instance, on this website you have no idea what anyone's biological sex is, though it is reasonable to assume that the vast majority of them are male. If you were talking in a discord chat with Towel23, you would call them "they" unless they gave some indication of whether they were male or female. It would be similar if you saw them from a distance, or in a low res picture, or in darkness. If the perceived gender isn't immediately obvious, use they, not he or she.

You don't call a human being 'it' unless it's a fetus to get away with abortions not being classified as murder.

the pronoun 'it' has many problems for use regarding human beings.

There we are.

Semantics, and you interpret the word and apply it to your notion of things.

Female egg producer, male sperm producer and the very occasional developmental anomaly......That's the way I interpret things.

In terms of basic references, the old standards are good enough for me. He, she, man woman etc.

Though modern trends relative to post natal socio-psychological attitudes towards recreational sex cannot be ignored.

If Daphne grows a beard and she want's to be referred as Dave, that's fine by me.

I think that you compiled that response in a hurry.

For sure "they" or "it" identifies an indeterminate organism.

Calling a fetus an “it” has nothing to do with whether or not abortion is called murder.

Abortion is NOT murder and it never will be.

Murder is a criminal act that involves one (already born) human being unjustly taking the life of another  (already born) human being.

In anticipation of you referring to the fetal homicide laws when a pregnant woman is killed or harmed in such a way as to cause the termination of her pregnancy, those laws are specifically written as an enhancement and not as an actual murder. Why? Cause the pregnancy, regardless of stage, is categorized as merely a legal victim and NOT [a] human being.

I refer to everyone in online forums as a he unless she says otherwise. I don’t refer to anyone as a ‘they.’  That’s just stupid.

Let's just avoid gender terms altogether. That shit is annoying when studying German and Spanish. Thinking of switching to Chinese so I can get away from them. The is no reasons for cars or food items to have genders. It's stupid
