Headline on the BBC:
Man dressed as old woman throws cake at Mona Lisa.

The news has turned into Mad Libs.

Which is more mad, that man, or the spectacle of a fake Mona Lisa? Anyway, he had a good message in contrast.

The real paintings are usually stored in vaults.

I would say that the most mad part is that the man thought throwing a cake at a painting was a good idea. Sure, it brings attention to his cause - just not the kind of attention that helps his cause.

According to the article, it was the actual painting.

The BBC is a reliable source, and the Louvre is one of the world's most respected museum. I trust them a little more than I trust speculation.

Good messages?

What was he trying to achieve, and how did this help with anything?

One of the first American right-wingers I have met who says BBC is a reliable source.

That is correct, though they have bias, they put a lot of effort into never printing even an indirect lie.

Thinking about Earth is better than staring at a Mona Lisa painting.

Defo a worthy piece of performance art in it's own right.

Far more entertaining and meaningful than a boring old picture.

@Poly

Art is an appreciable assumption.

Altering our environment is also appreciable.

Thinking as it were.

And 2+2 "equals" 4 within the context of an appreciable mathematical system.

And as I stated....The cause celebre, became an appreciable demonstration of performance art in it's own right.

So bravo to the cake throwing transvestite in the wheelchair.

Vandalising glass* It would have been a quick wipe without all the attention. I bet more people were/are entertained than annoyed — understanding the correct facts. I could almost call this cancel culture.

"We"? None. It's in the Louvre in France. How much is the Louvre spending? I don't know, but probably tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Enough to buy bulletproof glass to protect it from cake attacks, anyway.

Why would they be entertained? They came here to see a harmonically colored piece of canvas, not someone smother cream on it.

I wouldn’t even call this act good.

You can smother all kinds of cream on a blank canvas  and even lick it and it is art, yes it is.

But smother cream on a specific canvas so that it makes what the art is trying to convey less clear makes that piece of canvas, which took years to make, less valuable, Is utilitarian-wise undesirable. He has essentially invalidated more amount of work by doing less amount of work.

I noticed the people that think it's okay to possibly have destroyed a piece of classic art are the same people that argued that copyright shouldn't exist and that music artist/ authors shouldn't be able to own their work. And those are also all atheists. I've just figured out they seem to hate personal expression in any form. Painting, music, religion they hate all of it. This is kind of a new level of shock for me and I'm surprised cuz I honestly didn't think atheists could shock me any more than I already do. Unless it's a money thing which is even lower. I just can't stand the idea of making anyone making money on something that they've created.

Trump doesn't believe in copyrights. Former Republican President Donald Trump must face copyright claims brought by "Electric Avenue" musician Eddy Grant over Trump's alleged misuse of his song on a video he posted to Twitter, a Manhattan federal court ruled .
