The question isn't about voting. The question is about reporting.
Oh crap!!! i've been construing this as voting being anonymous. Lol... reading comprehension isn't working for me today. Sure... what's wrong with anonymous reporting? It's not like that will change the fact someone is reporting anyways. Put me down for yes. Who cares who reports what as long as moderation evaluates said report the same as all other cases.

I literally told you 'so what' and it has a long answer. You just chose to ignore it.

I really didn't... i seriously got an F in reading comprehension on this one. Even stuff you said... i kept thinking this had to do with voting being anonymous. Call me a dumbass on this one Scotty.

The problem with the report spam argument is I have no idea how big of a problem it would be if reporting was made anonymous again. I'd need to hear a mod's assessment of that, or Mike's. You're the ones who actually handle them.

You are choosing to ignore it considering that you're voting 'agree' :)

@Logical-Master
@Logical-Master:
If a mod has a vendetta against X user, that user can bring it to the attention of the community as we've seen with the issues that have raised in the past several weeks and get it resolved out in the open.

As long as the community has the power to keep mods in check, I'm fine with it.
Well, I do think the mods have used this information inappropriately, though I wouldn't call it a vendetta. I don't see that anything has been done about it, nor do I see that we have any power to keep them in check.

You said you didn't feel special because I did a very callous and inconsiderate mass notification.

How about being a tie breaker? Special enough? ;)

The problem is that the issue may be a problem one week or month but not the next. It's kind of hard to answer your question given that, but I would say that there are reporters who misuse the function to regularly report *clearly* sufficient votes.

Does report spam/abuse exist despite the lack of anonymity in reporting?

Your insinuation misconstrues the benefit of the lack of anonymity. Knowing which reports come from frequent spam reports allows me to prioritize my handling of reports and to better decide which mod should be assigned the report in question (to ensure all mods get a fair workload). It also means that if the spam reporting becomes too problematic, moderation could conceivably, though it hasn't yet, reach out to a member to explain the site voting policy in order to facilitate better reporting practices. I imagine that could also serve to promote better understanding of vote moderation in general.

Too right, I clutched my pearls with both hands, BOTH hands. The indignity.

I actually hope another voter shows up soon to take the pressure off me. I'd prefer to hear from Mike before I reach a decision. One side's saying the risks are considerable, the other's saying they're way overblown... eh.

How big of a nuisance would they be with the new report limitations in place? Has stripping report anonymity decreased the number of spam reports?

Yes, if only because now Drafter is not reporting every vote on every debate. Even with the report limit in place, a user could overwhelm moderation's current capabilities depending on how many other reports come in at once. Once a debate is reported, that report is evaluated like all the others are against site standards. But, if it becomes clear a user is misusing the report function, the mods could work to educate that voter on site standards to discourage future misusing of the report function.

Cool beans. Yeah, I think there are definitely good reasons to have non-anonymous reporting, but obviously people disagree. I think the information can also help the moderator glean an understanding of site interpersonal dynamics, which help them do their job. If two people constantly report each other, it indicates they may not get along, for instance.

That's nonya bidness and has nothing to do with moderation.

I really don't see a problem with anonymity as long as each report is weighed with the same rules all others are. So, i'm okay with it - vote yes.

With this post, and in the absence of any information which may counter it or put matters in a new light, I have changed my vote to no anonymity. I don't think the potential benefits of anonymous reporting are worth the troubles it would place on mods.

"Trouble for the mods" is not something worth considering unless the change would end moderation. BSH signed up for this, Virtuoso signed up for this, Mike signed up for this. Unless they're going to quit if reporting becomes anonymous -- and unless they're irreplaceable -- who cares.
