In this rare instance. I disagree with you on modding

@Raltar
As I believe I may have mentioned elsewhere, there is a certain user who has a grudge against me because I voted against him on one of his debates. The moderators upheld that vote, but as retaliation he went around and reported a bunch of random votes in the hope that a few would get taken down, as round about way of punishing me for voting against him. (Oh and does this sound similar to my concern about voter harassment?)
Voting is currently not-anonymous. Did that fact resolve the problem you describe here?

If you have a genuine need, moderators can receive private messages, right?

I don't want to say too much (so as not to reveal anything said via private mesaage), but I do feel that in my case at least moderators have been able to be more helpful and productive than they would have been than if they didn't know the origin of reports.

I vote no. Can be used abusively if anonymous. Plus it’s not like it’s public

The reason I think this is b/c the mods think I have multi accounts (which I dont) and if they have a predisposition against me than they might not deal with it the same way.

I don't understand what this has to do with report anonymity, but I have recorded your vote.

There should definitely be a system of writing.

Thanks for the thread link. And post 38 was tongue-in-cheek, of course.

Explains why I couldn't remember voting on this before, it was one issue in a list I group approved. I do lean toward anonymity, though I would accept non-anonymity and am willing to put my name to any report I make. I think anonymity would probably encourage more people to report problem behavior without anxiety about personal consequences, and help prevent bias from affecting report handling.

But DDOS attacks are something I hadn't considered, for some reason. I'd like to hear some mod feedback on that.

@Castin
From a technical standpoint, the threat of a DDOS attach is a fictional bogey man that has been conjured to scare people into voting one way or the other. Currently, people are limited to 10/reports a day. If this site cannot technically handle An extra 10 packets per person, then there are bigger issues at hand.

But, that is not the only kind of DDOS. What actually happened was a kind of DDOS in the that time resources of the mods were being consumed by a large volume of reports. But removing anonmity didn't fix this. What fixed it was a) limiting the number of reports a day and, more importantly, b) changing how they responded to vote reports.

The mods have significantly changed how they respond to reports on votes which has eliminated the affect large volume reporting can have on them.

The take-away is that there was a problem but removing anonymity didn't fix it and it has since been fixed without needing to rely on that loss of anonymity. A lot of people are wringing their hands about report abuse, but don't seem to be factoring this in.

The reason I think this is b/c the mods think I have multi accounts
I believe he signed up for the site with several of his friends and they likely share an IP address. Hence that might appear to be multi-accounting to the mods.

I'm also not 100% clear on how that relates to anonymous reporting, but he might be in a situation like mine where he doesn't want to say too much in order to avoid revealing the content of private messages.

REMINDER:

There was a problem with report spam:

1. It wasn't fixed when report anonymity was removed.
2. It was ultimately fixed without relying on the loss of anonymity.

It doesn't solve the problem of report abuse.

@drafterman
AND WHAT WILL YOU DO IF THEY DO IT ACROSS MANY ACCOUNTS?

Also, when adding a reason for reporting gets added how will they be able to moderate against a person whose reason for reporting is 'I fuck her right in the pussy!'

Yeah - but at least the mods will know who is doing the abusing.

You did not misunderstand, he just made up nonsense. If we don't trust the mods that's a TOTALLY different issue that this poll won't fix.
