sup, strangers. some of you may know me but most won't.

due to a series of unusual events in my life, I now feel convinced of a worldview incompatible with christianity. where exactly I'll land in terms of labels I do not yet know, but it won't be miles away from neo-advaita, a strain of buddhism as I understand.

if y'all who are so educated in the western philosophical canon might help me understand why it is neo-platonism fell out of favor (essentially explaining the rise of modernity as a whole kthxbai) I'd love to hear it. I'm researching the dharmic traditions, and interested in perennialism, non-dualism, & I'm worried I'll become a kooky theosophic occultist lol so feel free to save me from whatever you see as the dark path.

physicalist nihilists don't @ me

You'll find that path will lead you to the same place as Christianity if you don't get lost in random branches of knowledge.

yes, I now, apparently, stand next to C.S. Lewis — I believe Christianity is a "true myth"

I'm not familiar with the term "true myth". I think I can figure out what it means though

essentially I believe that Jesus didn't conceive of himself as the Son of God the way Christians believe, but that he was something like a buddha that so fully lived life as an awake human and was so in-touch with the unconscious that people could tell and remember him thusly for thousands of years…

Why would you believe that sort of thing as opposed to the witness testimonies of his death, and resurrection?

I don't doubt he would conceive of himself differently than modern christians do. SO that is not the part I am asking about

I never know if posts like this are genuine or just BS but if you're leaning towards Buddhism why are you worried about falling into the clutches of Theosophy?

It's probably BS based on what she (profile says female) said later on in the thread and the fact she ignored you and I posting.

Lived life fully awake, but so in touch with the unconscious.

There's your first contradiction in this particular hypothesis Stephen.

just what it says on the tin… basically wanna know why neoplatonic emanationism fell out of vogue. why did the gnostic view of reality as a corrupted Nous or whatever stop being a serious cosmological / metaphysical position among academic philosophers

and because I Know there's more than just what's right in front of my eyes.

because I have no reason to believe that the witness testimonies were real — for all I know they were real. it's immaterial to the worldview that flows from my new anchorpoint, which is a nondual metaphysic

Why do you believe he is real and just misremembered? I assumed it was based on gospel eyewitnesses.

Stephen loves contradictions.

And I think it is you.

And some fantastic terminology occurring.

Neoplatonic emanationism is f**king ace,

Must remember to slip that one in.

Old Plotinus was a right tart.

Nondual...Just the one then?

And what was odd about the twenty years before you transcended?

Or should I say more odd?

Though one could rightly argue,

That odd is,

As odd does.

@sui generis:

I remember you quite well. And yes the dharmic religions are the gateway drug into Theosophic occultism a.k.a. Luciferianism. And this answers your question about neo-platonism's fall from grace (the propagation of Luciferianism through eastern traditions, which were brought to the west--starting with Italy--by the Etruscans.) Read your Psalms, and thou shalt find light within dark path.

@zedvictor4:

I doubt she's Stephen, though I couldn't confirm it (and that'd be true for anyone for that matter.) Sui generis has always been more thoughtful in her considerations.

well the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth isn't really disputed by any relevant scholars, though of course that doesn't mean his divinity isn't disputed.

Any amount and sequence of letters can be a word.

How would you define SAANMONAOTTA?

I think it's because of the Reformation and also Kant's critique of dogmatic metaphysics. We see overall a turn to worldly action as the medium through which knowledge is validated, rather than otherworldly, abstract rumination.
