Wheel of Time

Finally coming November 18, 2021 is the amazon Prime adaptation of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time; you can catch the trailer here:

The book series Predates game of Thrones (and has a lot of the same themes and maneuvering), but far more based on magic - which is explained amazingly well.

I’ve been waiting for this for decades!

Based on the trailer, I'm cautiously optimistic. There was a prior attempt to create such a series that you can still find the pilot for (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZOCCEuROPk&t=230s). It... isn't good. The acting is bad and, considering the scene that's playing out, this should have far more gravitas than it actually does.

Nonetheless, the trailer for this series has me intrigued and I think it's well-cast from what I've read of the actors. This is a series worth adapting, and there's plenty of material (14 books) to adapt, so they can take their time. I'm a pretty big fan of the books, so I'm hopeful.

The pilot was actually not intended to be a series; it was an attempt for the production company to retain the TV rights; they had a clause that said they had to have produced something by a given date.

I didn't like the Wheel of Time series,

Though the world was fleshed out, there were interesting creatures and villains.

I disliked the way the women in the book were written, as I recall.

Found them too hypocritical, pushy,

I also disliked the torture, slavery, rape, and unfortunate fates in the book,

Too much breaking the haughty for me.

Even when it occurs to villains, I don't care for it much.
