I have no ideas for debates, but everyone else seems to have a lot. Any original ideas? I'm willing to debate pretty much anything.
Absolutely NO ideas for debates, anyone got any ideas they want to do?

DUNE DEBATE: LADY JESSICA of HOUSE ATREIDES FUCKED UP the GALAXY
Fucking spoilers! :(
Cordelia in King Lear fucked up the whole country. I can't remember why, but she did.
George Orwell thought Aldous Huxley was a clown. 1984 caricatures and ridicules Brave New World.
-->
@Bones
Mm, I don't know if I quite agree 'bout that. Tho I can see why you'd think that.

@badger
Fucking spoilers! :(
I don't play the spoilers game- that shit's for Karens looking for reasons to be offended. If maintaining your personal sense of surprise really seems more important than the public's freedom to discuss media then it is on you to consume that media quickly and avoid public forums until then. The tyranny of the easily offended is shutting down our capacity to discuss things that happened and I think free thinkers have a certain obligation to not give a fuck. Bruce Willis is a ghost. Darth Vader is Luke Father.
For live events, especially sports, you have no right to expect protection from revelations.
For movies, I generally don't give away surprises for 2 weekends. After that, you didn't care enough to prioritize the movie so I don't care about your supposed right to be surprised.
For TV shows, you have until the next show airs. For whole seasons, one hits, and finales you have about two weeks.
For novels, you have one month.
Dune has been in circulation for 55 years. If you haven't read it yet its officially on you.
Besides which, saying that Jessica made a mistake is more perspective than actually revealing any plot point.

@oromagi
I'm really enjoying Dune atm, is all, haha. I've been busy.
You got it all worked out, eh.
-->
@badger
Oh, you are reading it now? Ok, I just added an actual spoiler, saw your note, then removed it.
Enjoy!

I disagree with most of the rest of the post but it would be really hard for me to not agree with these two points lol.
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is softcore erotica.
There's even a fucking pirate in there, for god's sake.

Who is up the galaxy?
See? This is the problem with this kind of topic statements. I believe it needs to be reworded to be more precise.

George Orwell thought Aldous Huxley was a clown.
Of course he did. The fallacy of youth. Huxley was Orwell's French teacher at Eton. Huxley's dystopian future of 1931 [Brave New World] was much closer to the truth than Orwell's 1984 [1949]. Where Orwell's oppressive government waged war and fear, Huxley's was a soma-induced, sex-crazed revolution. The soma is, of course, today's media - positively mind-numbing trivia [Joe has relevance???], and sex doesn't even know what it is, anymore, and cannot decide how to find out. Huxley wins in a landslide.

Huxley wins in a landslide.
He doesn't. Orwell saw Huxley for defeatist. I'd need to read the books again, but 1984 isn't a dystopian novel so much as a book about self-tyranny. It's a mirror, the character O'Brien spells this out clear as day for us. The British TV show Black Mirror I think finds great influence in Orwell, actually, also. The whole future aspect of it then is just to exaggerate and so highlight the sort of thinking that makes up this self-tyranny. It's not meant for serious, it's a dreamscape. Written mostly in 1948, Orwell flips the last two digits around and that's future, barely. The mirror is on Huxley.
I think it was a cruel trick Orwell played in fairness, but he still comes out on top.
Hmm...i've never heard of these books before. They look interesting. I think I should add them to my to-read list.

@MarkWebberFan
Absolutely. I recommend both, though I am obviously partial to Huxley. Another Huxley novel I think you'd like is Ape and Essence.

@fauxlaw
Ah! Okay thanks.
