History sections and mythohistory sections usually do very well on websites. Shouldn't Dart implement this?

I agree that there should be a HISTORY forum.  I am fine with mythohistory being included under the HISTORY heading.

It’s already covered by the several other subjects listed, by our own designation of “history of xxx”. One can easily reference a history of Sports, for example, in the Sports topic.

I mean, from that logic there shouldn't be a politics thing either - just talk about it in philosophy or current events. I think a History is distinct and varied enough that it could easily make it's own forum category.

Yes, and we really need a paranormal forum as well.

Ok, so where would you put a topic such as

  • INACCURACIES and ASSUMPTIONS DRAWN from the BAYEUX TAPESTRY's "Harold Rex Interfectus Est"  ?
or
  • DISCERNING SCALES of ROMAN IMPERIAL SILVER SMELTING from ARCTIC ICE CORE SAMPLES?
or
  • THE PRACTICALITIES of AGINCOURT:  HOW STICKS and DAGGERS BROUGHT DOWN FULLY ARMORED MOUNTED KNIGHTS ?

"Mythohistory"....Never heard of it

Is that an American compound?

Perhaps it would be more appropriate for religion to  be in a mythohistory section.

"History".... Is the study of past events, and the vast majority of things discussed, relate to, or include past events.

We discuss history all the time in every forum.

Yesterday is history......As today will be tomorrow.

Everything we know is history.

Egyptian pharaohs and Roman emperors would be history.
Pre Roman British monarchs and Irish high kings would be mythohistory.

That just defines mytho-history.

You picked 4 historic periods....All of which have associated myth.

All of those periods are nonetheless history.

Your distinction, seems to be the difference between popular history and not so popular.

Perhaps a category named "History & Mythology" would be better in this case.

Nothing is ever learned from history, don't know why time is wasted teaching it. Its rewritten every ten  to twenty years anyway. The history I was taught in no way even  comes close in any respect to the history my children were taught.  I don't even discuss history with my children, its utterly pointless. I tell them to believe what ever they want to believe.  No matter what you believe about history, you can bet your life it will repeat, always has and always will. teaching history is pointless. Nothing is ever learned from it. Every generation thinks they are smarter than the last when in reality they are all equally stupid as none ever learned anything from history. My generation included.

We learn from history about things that reputedly, occurred previously.

Learning is simply the acquisition and storing of data.

Like it or not, learning about the past or remembering past events, is an intrinsic human function.

It's why we progress both intellectually and technologically.

Q.  And so, how do we split the Atom then.

A. How would I know....No one bothers to write these things down.

Like it or not, someone did bother to write these things down.....MAD hey?

And I take it then, that you are an atheist and that you also encouraged your children to be so?

"And I take it then, that you are an atheist and that you also encouraged your children to be so?" I don't tell my kids to think anything. I tell them to think what ever the hell they want about anything. I literally have no usable advice for them that would help them achieve anything in this world today. Their views and beliefs about anything are no more or no less true or false than anyone else's views and beliefs. Oh and technology advancements by definition is not world history in the sense that most people would think of what world history is. I don't tell anyone what to think, I tell people what I think. If that makes you angry, I don't give a fuck, It's what I think. Time and results usually tell a person what they think and believe is complete BS or true. Lord knows I used to think complete BS used to be the truth.

So we're sort of on the same wavelength.

Though perhaps you display slightly higher levels of angst.

Oh, and I didn't suggest that technological advancements  were the definition of history. I was merely suggesting that if humans didn't possess the ability to record and recall complex data, then we would probably still be living in caves.

By definition, history is the study of past events.....And past events occurred yesterday or even a second ago.

Lord knows I used to think complete BS used to be the truth.
Some might say that was a contradictory statement.

So who's this Lord that knows?.... Freudian slip perhaps?

And I don't do angry.......I grew out of angry some time ago.

Oh and also...As my daughters have matured, and despite all their formative hormonal angst and rebellion, it's quite apparent how much in terms of outlook they have become  like me and Mrs Zed.

You and Mrs Sadolite (assumption), are your kids chief role models, and they will undoubtedly model themselves on you, despite what you or they might think.

So one of them is bound  to turn into a grumpy old git as they get older.

Regards Zed.

And if you have any kids.
Well, I did just say that I had daughters.

And I like to think that I am being satirical rather than condescending.

If you think that I am being condescending, that's probably because you have an acquired tendency to think that everyone is being condescending.

Sort of a conditioned inferiority complex.

Hence.......A grumpy old git.

Do you ever relax or smile?

Regards Zed.

You are totally unaware of your own existence. LOL

My Father in Law used to come up with spontaneous whimsical incomprehensible jokes, and then proceed to laugh his socks off.

He was also prone to spells of extreme grumpiness.

A side effect of falling testosterone levels perhaps?
