Hi folks, round 2 of live practice debating is here!

This time, I'm wanting to do a minimal approach where both sides come to the table with only a constructive, and no other prep! This will force us to think of rebuttals on our feet, which I'm horrible at.

I'm thinking of doing a simple Public Forum 2 team style debate as follows:

Team A Speaker 1: Constructive (4 mins)
Team B Speaker 1: Constructive (4 mins)
Crossfire between both first speakers (2 mins)
Team A Speaker 2: Rebuttal (4 mins)
Team B Speaker 2: Rebuttal (4 mins)
Crossfire between both second speakers (2 mins)
Team A Speaker 1: Summary (3 mins)
Team B Speaker 1: Summary (3 mins)
Grand crossfire between all speakers (3 mins)
Team A Speaker 2: Final Focus (2 mins)
Team B Speaker 2: Final Focus (2 mins)

I'm open to all topic suggestions. If you want to participate let me know, we need at least 4 people.

All about it. Totally /in.

Also, got a couple of topic ideas:

THW nationalize and provide public access to the Metadata being gathered by online multinational companies.
THW break up Disney.

Out of the two, breaking up Disney seems more intriguing.

If not that, I'm kind of wanting to do the India topic actually.

Resolved: The United Nations should grant India permanent membership on the Security Council.

Always interested in Parli, even BP if we get enough people to do it (unlikely as that is).

This makes 4 total. I'll wait to give an opportunity for others to express interest. In the meantime, which topic do we want to do out of the proposed ones so far?

THW nationalize and provide public access to the Metadata being gathered by online multinational companies.
THW break up Disney.

all of them seem good. I'd probably be best at metadata? Probably. Disney looks tricky, Fruit Inspector looks like he would be good at that.

I’d prefer the UN topic. Other two are largely even for me.

OK.

We have 2 on UN, 1 on metadata, 1 on Disney and one with no preference.

I guess we're going with the UN topic then for now. We can do the others next time.

I'll assign teams and sides soon.

Does the 3rd sound good for people? Gives everyone some time to make cases. We're not doing any other prep so it'll take less time.

Since we have an uneven number, I'd suggest what we did last time: somebody sits out initially and then participates later

I saw you were wanting to do a parli debate, and I would love to be a part of one.\. I actually do it for my college, so the practice would be great. If you're still up for it, lemme know some way and maybe we can get a forum post going.

You know I'd be all about this. Could definitely manage it just by creating two separate rooms for prep in Discord and having a moderator decide on a topic just ahead of the debate. Be even better if we could get enough for a BP round, but that's unlikely.

@MisterChris
I do APDA

Speaking times are:

PMC: 7:30
LOC: 8:30
MG: 8:30
MO: 8:30
LOR: 4:30
PMR: 5:30

PM and MG are Gov, LO and MO are Opp. Rebuttal (R) speeches cannot make new arguments, and if they do you can call them out by calling a point of order.

PM gives a regular constructive, LO gives counter points as well as rebuttal, MG and MO are both just rebuttal and defense, then LOR and PMR wrap up the debate

You learn the topic 15 minutes before the debate begins and write your case within that 15 minutes, you use mainly logical warrants
