What exactly has Trump done to drain the swamp?

From early in his presidential campaign, Donald Trump swore he’d do away with the so-called carried-interest loophole: the notorious tax break that allows highly compensated private-equity managers, real estate investors and venture capitalists to be taxed at a much lower rate than other professionals. “They’re paying nothing, and it’s ridiculous,” Trump said in August 2016. “These are guys that shift paper around and they get lucky.” He concluded, “they're getting away with murder.”

Yet the sweeping tax legislation enacted by Republicans during Trump's tenure left the treatment of carried interest untouched

This begs the question: why has Trump been such a devastatingly profound failure at draining the swamp? Is it because he is utterly incompetent and routinely lies to his brainwashed supporters, OR is it because he is corrupt and personally benefits from the status quo? 🤔

After campaigning on a pledge to "drain the swamp," when Trump took office he signed an executive order that included a 5-year lobbying ban which prevents officials from lobbying the agency they worked for 5 years after leaving office. Of course there were provisions and loopholes, but for the most part, this was a good move.

Then hours before Trump left office, he revoked his own executive order thereby allowing government officials to become lobbyists.

Granted Trump's executive order was largely ineffective in the first place, with at least 33 former administration officials sidestepping the lobbying restrictions according to ProPublica. But by rescinding his ethics order and letting his staffers immediately become lobbyists, the man who pledged to drain the swamp took a giant step to fill it. We know that Trump believes having administration officials turned lobbyists = swampy because he said so when he signed the order.

The White House has been outwardly cavalier about its ethical behavior (having been accused of illegally violating the Hatch Act dozens of times). In an interview with Politico, Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows argued that “nobody outside of the Beltway really cares” about ethics violations. It looks like he's right!

The fact that Trump can have the diehard allegiance of millions despite routinely mocking their intelligence is something I have come to admire, or rather, revere. These low-information sheep don't even realize they should be trying to reconcile this pro swamp move with Mr. Drain the Swamp. They're too deeply invested in this cult of personality to accept how comically absurd it is that they fell for some aristocrat whose lived in a New York City penthouse his whole life being the savior and mouthpiece for the everyday working class American who struggles to put food on the table. These folks actually believe Mr. Silver Spoon whose obsessed with celebrity and riches somehow wouldn't prioritize his crony friends over righteousness. They just can't grasp that Donald Trump is ever a politician (phony, self-aggrandizing and perpetually lying) as there ever was. I'm impressed. There won't be another master manipulator like Trump for a very long time.

Why did Trump revoke his executive order and allow his administration to become lobbyists?

this assumes he wanted to "drain the swamp" at all. But he had to know that Goldman Sachs executives were definitely swamp people. He picked all Swamp people for his administration. So he is either:

1) a complete idiot who has no idea what "drain the swamp" even means because he has no idea that a Goldman Sachs exec is part of that

or

2) he was lying and had no intention of ever "draining the swamp". This would explain why he filled his administration with corrupt, swamp creatures.

I think it's a combination of the 2. he made up a buzzword that fed on people's legitimate anger at a corrupt system. But didn't know what he could do to address the actual problem so he pawned it off on corrupt people because he's lazy and stupid. He might have meant to "drain the swamp" or he might have just been lying, but either way he is a lazy idiot or a liar.

The Trump you hate does not exist. He is your strawman.

Every president since Truman has promised to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. Every one. Only one did it: Donald Trump. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/14/us/politics/trump-jerusalem-embassy-middle-east-peace.html

No Democrat or Republican President dared meet NoKo face-to-face until Trump did. That’s how diplomacy starts.  https://www.latimes.com/world/asia/la-fg-trump-kim-summit-20180611-story.html

No President, Roosevelt through Obama, Republican or Democrat. Passed a tax cut package the size of Trump’s. His corporate tax cut was 43%, largest in a century. That’s historic enough for me. What? You’re not a corporation? That’s on you, Buff. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-tax-history/trumps-tax-cut-wont-be-the-biggest-in-u-s-history-idUSKBN1D223O

Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, under duress as a Southern Democrat facing loss of the South for his party, but my factoid was Black unemployment. No modern president since Roosevelt, at least, has achieved the unemployment rate reached by Trump. https://www.politifact.com/article/2019/aug/01/donald-trump-said-hes-done-more-african-americans-/
Not to mention that black poverty rate had never seen better numbers. Trump has cut Johnson’s black poverty rate by half. https://infogram.com/untitled-1hxr4znwq7m54yo?live

Carter’s Iran disaster was legendary. You suggest Oba’a made a great deal. He sure did; it ensured Iran would have nuclear weapons by 2025. Read the Deal? No? I did. It’s a disaster, caving to Iran in addition to giving them $1.3B plus $400M in cash. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2018/03/01/was-obamas-1-7-billion-cash-deal-with-iran-prohibited-by-u-s-law/
As for the deal itself, it took all of 3 months, from July to October, for Iran to begin violating the deal, multiple times. https://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/Timeline-of-Nuclear-Diplomacy-With-Iran

Clinton declared a substantive deal in 1994 with NoKo, but never met with Rocketman’s father. The deal was violated by NoKo almost immediately, which was meant to deter NoKo’s advances in achieving a nuclear missile delivery system. They have it, and have had it since 2002. https://theconversation.com/why-the-uss-1994-deal-with-north-korea-failed-and-what-trump-can-learn-from-it-80578

Oba’a economy was so recovered that he never achieved a greater quarter-to-quarter growth rate above 2.5%. He declared, himself, that 2% GDP was the new norm. https://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/11/07/obama-warns-of-new-normal-for-economy/

His economy was so recovered, he lost our AAA credit rating for the first time in history in 2011, costing us billions in new interest payments on the debt, and affected the world market downgrade. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-debt-downgrade/united-states-loses-prized-aaa-credit-rating-from-sp-idUSTRE7746VF20110807

The only effect of Obama’s increase in market value was by artificial infusion of cash from the Federal Reserve, but the market saw immediate rise, then precipitous fall, because artificial infusion cannot sustain the market, and it didn’t. People look at the rise of the market during Oba’a, but ignore its numerous falls. While overall, the market grew from 8,000 to 18,000, but, in the process, it also lost 6,000 points in his 8 years; a net gain of an ordinary 4,000 point gain. https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=djia+today&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 look at the max view.

None of these highlighted presidents did anything that Roosevelt didn’t, but Trump did, as I said. I’ve cited the evidence. Cry me a river.

You obviously don't know what the word "straw man" means.

A "straw man" is when you misrepresent someone else's argument to make it easier to negate.

I have not made any arguments against Trump in the OP (and your response addressed nothing I said).

What I did in the OP was give  two major examples where Trump has proven to be a monumental failure at draining the swamp.

You replied with a RED HERRING (irrelevant counter points) about Trump's alleged accomplishments.

I am not denying Trump did good things so your reply is wholly irrelevant.

Why didn't Trump push to end the tax loop holes that he said were criminal?

Why did Trump revoke his executive order and allow his administration to become lobbyists?

These are the questions I asked and what the OP was about. There was no straw man and your reply does not address my points.

The failures of other presidents has absolutely, positively nothing to do with the OP.

It's just that the Trump cult can't bring themselves to acknowledge criticism of their dear leader at all.

I can't seem to access your link so I don't know if this is true. But they all chose not to do it because it is stupid. The US is trying to be a neutral arbiter to negotiate peace. So explicitly siding with Israel makes that impossible. This was really dumb if you ever want a negotiated peace.

No Democrat or Republican President dared meet NoKo face-to-face until Trump did. That’s how diplomacy starts.
No it isn't. Meeting him had no positive effect at all. They are still doing all the things they were doing before. Meeting him just provided him extra legitimacy and the US got nothing.

No President, Roosevelt through Obama, Republican or Democrat. Passed a tax cut package the size of Trump’s. His corporate tax cut was 43%, largest in a century
this is a horrible, horrible thing. It has massively ballooned the debt.

No modern president since Roosevelt, at least, has achieved the unemployment rate reached by Trump.
why does the black unemployment rate have anything to do with trump? He did absolutely nothing to help with that.

You suggest Oba’a made a great deal. He sure did; it ensured Iran would have nuclear weapons by 2025.
no, it guaranteed that they would suspend making weapons. Tearing up the deal just triggered them to start up again. Trump has ensured they will have nuclear weapons soon.

It’s a disaster, caving to Iran in addition to giving them $1.3B plus $400M in cash.
that money was already theirs. It belonged to the Iranian government and was illegally stolen after the Shaw of Iran was toppled. I'm not sure how returning stolen property is "caving"

Clinton declared a substantive deal in 1994 with NoKo, but never met with Rocketman’s father. The deal was violated by NoKo almost immediately, which was meant to deter NoKo’s advances in achieving a nuclear missile delivery system. They have it, and have had it since 2002.
ok. but trump met him and accomplished absolutely nothing. How is this different?

Oba’a economy was so recovered that he never achieved a greater quarter-to-quarter growth rate above 2.5%.'
this isn't true. Here is a link showing quarterly growth. There are lots of quarters during his presidency over 2.5% some of them are double that.

His economy was so recovered, he lost our AAA credit rating for the first time in history in 2011, costing us billions in new interest payments on the debt, and affected the world market downgrade.
this was largely a reaction to the battle the republicans triggered over the debt ceiling. So it's a little disingenuous to blame this on obama.

None of these highlighted presidents did anything that Roosevelt didn’t, but Trump did, as I said. I’ve cited the evidence. Cry me a river.

Since the topic is government corruption and you are desperately deflecting to foreign policy achievements, I think we can infer your concession regarding corruption.  Trump was born to the soupiest of swamps- NY real estate & the mob.  Nobody who knows what it means that Trump built in concrete in the 1980s or what it takes to build casinos in Atlantic City would have expected Trump to be any less than the most corrupt POTUS in US history.

Honestly, I can't think of a more spectacularly corrupt person in American history.  I mean, people like Al Capone had a certain code.  If Capone had been caught ripping off children's charities, stealing from charities to buy massive self-portraits, diverting disaster relief funds to friends and family-  he never would have survived the damage to his reputation.  At least Capone went down for tax fraud, which I am not confident will be Trump's fate.

To be specific, the topic is not government corruption, but, curiously, "Joe Biden sucks," whatever that means since Biden is not mentioned in Danielle's opening post. Or, was Danielle in a fit of recognizing the obvious, with undefined transference to Trump? And, additionally, "draining the swamp" is more than undefined "gov't corruption." So, are you also guilty of straying off-point? When is someone going to mention why Biden sucks? Oh, I think the subject is adequately covered in another string. Never mind.

Stellar post!

You obviously don't know what the word "straw man" means.
Really? You list only a single thing (carried-interest loophole) you claim Trump failed to do, and call that a total failure of draining the swamp. And you even admit to was the legislature's failure, and not Trump. Was the carried-interest loophole the only standard of draining the swamp?

Your argument  IS a straw man. After listing only one obscure criteria, the carried-interest loophole, you insert this bit of fakery, "This begs the question: why has Trump been such a devastatingly profound failure at draining the swamp? You're now dressing your strawman!

Trump exposed the FBI for the biased organization it was, and several of the top brass had to resign or were fired.
Trump exposed the corruption in the Steele dossier and the Clinton's and Obama's part in it.

Trump cleaned out countless red tape paper pushers in many governmet departments, including the courts. He got the libtards using the courts as law creators to stop, and restructured the education Dept.

Trump starkly identified who was "the swamp", and showed the it wasn't just Democrats but Republicans too.

Considering the hounding by the democrats, the media, and the RINO's it is amazing how much of the swamp was drained in just 4 years. Did you think the swamp could be fixed in one term?

Fauxlaw uses the comparisons with other Presidents to show that your judgement of Trump is both biased and false. He was correct in doing so.

No Democrat or Republican President dared meet NoKo face-to-face until Trump did. That’s how diplomacy starts.
No it isn't. Meeting him had no positive effect at all.
This is a lie.
First, NK has not violated the missile agreement by testing any long range missiles since Trump visited. And second, Trump and Kim still had open channels of communication. Both things no other President was able to do. So there were positive effects.

No President, Roosevelt through Obama, Republican or Democrat. Passed a tax cut package the size of Trump’s. His corporate tax cut was 43%, largest in a century
this is a horrible, horrible thing. It has massively ballooned the debt.
How is giving the people's money back to them worse than giving it to Pakistan for gender studies?

you've highlighted stupid things trump did and things he did that accomplished nothing. Do you really think you made him look good?
Trump already looked good, which is why your post is mainly lies and lame excuses.

...but, curiously, "Joe Biden sucks," whatever that means since Biden is not mentioned in Danielle's opening post.

The name of the thread is obviously a joke.

Why didn't Trump push to end the tax loop holes that he said were criminal?
Why did Trump revoke his executive order and allow his administration to become lobbyists?

These are the questions I asked and what this thread is about.

You are likely part of the deranged Trump cult that cannot admit your dear leader was a monumental failure at "draining the swamp" despite that being what he campaigned on and what he deluded people into thinking was his mission as president. Poor people are still poor; they still don't have access to healthcare even if they saw their wages go up a dollar. The wall didn't get built. The swamp is still full. People still worship this man as if he was their lord and savior but cannot answer these questions, prefer to ignore them and feel compelled to bring up other presidents or red herrings as a sad deflection.

Trump was an elected president, not a supreme ruler. The President has limited power by the Constitution. Trump, as many presidents do, had a misguided opinion of his powers, but that condition is hardly unique. A federal judge has already halted a Biden EO to stop deportation of illegals. This, in Biden's first week, so, even Biden is bitten by the power assumption bug. trump is not my lord and Savior. The job is already adequately and permanently held by Another. Don't assume I'm a Trump-no-matter-what supporter. But I recognize progress when I see it, and I cited it.

So far he has demonstrated he is going to throw this country and the working taxpayer strait under the bus.

That is a poor read of Trump. Trump was never blind to the RINO's, but America is a 2 party state. Trump ran as a Republican because, first, Independants cannot win, and second, because the Democrats are worse. He had to use Republicans to fight democrats, there was nobody else. When the time came, he fought Republicans and pissed them off too.

Fights like gaining back the country from leftist loons and bringing sanity back to government take years. Our instant gratification crowd wanted Trump to do it in 4 years. These are people who would have fallen by the wayside in the struggles against racism and for women's rights. Those efforts took YEARS, and many people who took up the baton after a previous leader had fallen.

Trump has fundamentally changed America, and those changes will out last Trump himself. Most Americans did not know how fake the MSM was before Trump exposed them. Liberal Political correctness had a chokehold on society before Trump came and dismissed the perpectually hysterical SJWs. Activism had infected our courts to the point that out legal judgements had become a laughing stock around the world. Trump put the kybash on all that idiocy.

Europe was not paying their fair share for their defense. Trump exposed that. China was invading our markets but not letting us into theirs. Trump called them out on it. No other President ever had. Trump exposed the stinking leftist bias in big tech. It is because of him that we have Parler, Gab, Newsmax, OANN, and countless new apps and sites coming up, and old cancel culture sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Google going down.

The battle isn't over by a long shot.

Lol how exactly did he do that? He gave the republicans everything they wanted (tax cuts for the rich, cutting things for the poor and middle class, cutting regulations so that the rich can screw people over more etc). Policy wise, he did almost nothing they didn't want him to do.

Fights like gaining back the country from leftist loons and bringing sanity back to government take years
this doesn't even make sense. There are virtually no "leftists" in the US government. They are all different shades of right wing. I'm guessing you just mean culture war bullshit. But economically, the democrats and the republicans are both right wing.

Activism had infected our courts to the point that out legal judgements had become a laughing stock around the world.
I agree activism is bad for the courts. Which is why trump packing them with far right wing judges is horrible. He has made the legal system a laughing stock by making it part of the republican party.

Europe was not paying their fair share for their defense. Trump exposed that.
So the US massively over funds it's military, so obviously everyone else is at fault....

China was invading our markets but not letting us into theirs. Trump called them out on it. No other President ever had.
even if that is true, he accomplished absolutely nothing. The trade relationship hasn't changed at all.

Trump exposed the stinking leftist bias in big tech.
i'm just going to let these oft repeated right wing lie slide since there is no point getting into that with you again.

It is because of him that we have Parler, Gab, Newsmax, OANN, and countless new apps and sites coming up
so you are saying it is his fault we have waves of lunatics spreading the most bald faced, crazy lies they can in an attempt to try to outdo each other and grab attention? That is a horrible thing. these "news apps" are cesspools are lies, propaganda and insane conspiracy theories. They are doing huge damage to america.

@Dr.Franklin
no, Trump is very smart, he outsmarted everybody to win the presidency including the media!
I have always given him credit for this. It is his one real talent. He is a showman. He knows how to read people and tell them what they want to hear. But that doesn't make him smart.

He made a mistake in making Jared Kushner or jeff sessions in his administration, the republicans sided with him and first but rinos like Paul Ryan did nothing but interfere with his promises
You're basically just admitting a reason he is stupid. He filled his cabinet with the same people who have been running the republican party for years. He then did nothing to try to actually push for the agenda he campaigned on. So either he is stupid for appointing these people and then not pushing for his agenda or he is just lazy and didn't give a shit about all those promises he just didn't bother to try to keep. I think it's both.

Policy wise, he did almost nothing they didn't want him to do.
Strange then that they were pissed at him huh?

There are virtually no "leftists" in the US government.
Kamala and Biden want to open our borders and fund abortions worldwide. It seems nothing short of Ché would qualify as leftist to you. Could that be because YOU'RE loony left yourself?

I agree activism is bad for the courts.
Yet you agree with every activist judgement from those activist courts! I smell fakery.

So the US massively over funds it's military, so obviously everyone else is at fault....
Please don't be stupid. The amounts Europe were to pay was written down in our defense pact. Even Europe agreed Trump was right. Being knee-jerk against Trump to the detriment of simple truth is absurd.

even if that is true,...
This art is fact.

...he accomplished absolutely nothing
This part is opinion. TDS laced opinion.

so you are saying it is his fault we have waves of lunatics spreading the most bald faced, crazy lies they can in an attempt to try to outdo each other and grab attention? That is a horrible thing.
The horrible thing is that you think standing so close to lies doesn't affect you.

...these "democrats" are cesspools are lies, propaganda and insane conspiracy theories. They are doing huge damage to america.
Fixed that for ya.

lots of reasons. But primarily because he is toxic. He has cost them the house, the senate and the presidency. And they knew he was going to do that. Hell, the people currently kissing his ass told you that when ran for the nomination. Take this one for example. Turns out he was right.

Kamala and Biden want to open our borders and fund abortions worldwide.
they have never said they want to open our borders, so that is just straight up a lie. Also, the republicans also support importing cheap labor, so that is not a "left" position. And how is funding health care initiatives "left"?

Yet you agree with every activist judgement from those activist courts! I smell fakery.
i'm assuming that you believe any ruling which doesn't benefit the rich or the republican party is somehow "activist". So there's no point engaging with this one.

Please don't be stupid. The amounts Europe were to pay was written down in our defense pact. Even Europe agreed Trump was right. Being knee-jerk against Trump to the detriment of simple truth is absurd.
and that pact is out dated. That level of military spending is counter productive. America's level of military funding is insane.

The horrible thing is that you think standing so close to lies doesn't affect you.
no, I don't watch fox news.

Fixed that for ya.
oooh, how clever. You can completely ignore my point and change the subject so as to avoid looking at how corrupt and insane right wing media is. But please, go right back to suckling at insane conspiracy theories. Don't worry, some day they'll find evidence for their insanity. you just have to keep believing (and giving them your money and vote of course).

Strange then that they were pissed at him huh?
lots of reasons.
One of them being he didn't give them everything they wanted.

Kamala and Biden want to open our borders and fund abortions worldwide.
they have never said they want to open our borders, so that is just straight up a lie.
Like they never said they would end fracking? Both you and them are liars.

...importing cheap labor,
"Importing cheap labor" is not the same as illegal immigration slick.

i'm assuming that you believe any ruling which doesn't benefit the rich or the republican party is somehow "activist". So there's no point engaging with this one.
The supreme Court struck most of them down. There is no point of you exposing yourself with this one.

Please don't be stupid. The amounts Europe were to pay was written down in our defense pact. Even Europe agreed Trump was right. Being knee-jerk against Trump to the detriment of simple truth is absurd.

I was right and you were lying. They were not paying what they themselves had agreed to pay.

The horrible thing is that you think standing so close to lies doesn't affect you.
no, I don't watch fox news.
Being voluntarily ignorant is not a bragging point.

Fixed that for ya.
oooh, how clever.
I believe one doesn't need to lie to be cleaver.

Your cancel culture response of "conspiracy theory" will no longer work, and certainly not on a debate site.

One of them being he didn't give them everything they wanted.
no, he gave them almost everything they wanted. What exactly did he do that the republicans didn't want? Specifically policy wise.

Kamala and Biden want to open our borders and fund abortions worldwide.
they have never said they want to open our borders, so that is just straight up a lie.
Like they never said they would end fracking? Both you and them are liars.
so instead of answering what I said, you made a new and completely unrelated accusation. Do you see why trying to talk to you is a joke? you throw out lies and then when called out on your lies you change the subject.

...importing cheap labor,
"Importing cheap labor" is not the same as illegal immigration slick.
you are referring to illegal immigrants crossing from mexico? Corporations use them as cheap labor. Including trump.

I was right and you were lying. They were not paying what they themselves had agreed to pay.
I never claimed they weren't paying what was in the agreement. I said what was in the agreement was stupid. And what the US is spendding is completely insane. But there you go again lying about what I am saying.

The horrible thing is that you think standing so close to lies doesn't affect you.
no, I don't watch fox news.

watching fox doesn't prevent ignorance. It just causes people to believe insane conspiracy theories and bald faced lies.

I believe one doesn't need to lie to be cleaver.
true,  but you lie constantly and I doubt very many people would accuse you of being clever.

Your cancel culture response of "conspiracy theory" will no longer work, and certainly not on a debate site. \
you throw out insane bullshit with no evidence. I point out it is an insane conspiracy theory. Your options are to provide evidence or look like a lunatic. I see you are doubling down on lunatic.

Trump though that the GOP had his back when they wanted to drain the swamp since he won the primary and then the election itself, this was his fatal error as the GOP establishment wanted business as usual
so he is a complete idiot...  You believe he wanted to drain the swamp and thought that the swamp creatures would help him out with that.

Lol how exactly did he do that? He gave the republicans everything they wanted...
Strange then that they were pissed at him huh?

Importing cheap labor" is still not the same as illegal immigration slick.

I was right and you were lying. They were not paying what they themselves had agreed to pay.
I never claimed they weren't paying what was in the agreement.
Let's see....

Europe was not paying their fair share for their defense. Trump exposed that.
So the US massively over funds it's military, so obviously everyone else is at fault....
Please don't be stupid. The amounts Europe were to pay was written down in our defense pact. Even Europe agreed Trump was right. Being knee-jerk against Trump to the detriment of simple truth is absurd.

No.You just lied in such a way to get deniability. My point was that Europe was not paying what they agreed to. Trump pointed that out. You lied by innuendo. Saying, "so obviously everyone else is at fault...."

How is it blaming someone else to point out they aren't paying what they agreed? What were you opposing? I find your debating style bereft of integrity.

i dont think it was intentional nor stupid. I think he was extending an olive branch to the republican party
