    Depends on the role, though with a few exceptions, it’s usually not a good idea to claim in DP1 unless you have to do so.

    There are all different kinds of ways to play this that are meant to elicit certain responses from the other players. Grey is making a play that suits his style. My impression is that most people wouldn’t do this, but saying that it’s suboptimal play assumes that everyone plays by the same standards. It’s your call to make, but generally, keeping useful information to yourself is a good call early on.

    I'm not entirely sure what is suboptimal. I'm just repeating what has been said

    From what you and croc said, ideally you would not claim dp1 unless you are pressured or have a reason to claim. Grey claimed without either. If there is a way that most people play or are expected to play, doing the exact opposite would be suboptimal would it not?

    Is there a reason mafia would ignore his playstyle to the detriment of town?

    Please tell us the various experiences you’ve had with the game? I remember you talking about playing it only in person, but did you play just vanilla mafia or with some roles outlined in the OP?

    We had basic roles. Cop, tracker, nothing to over the top. But it was done in person at a church youth group.
