it's an issue, but it don't seem like as big of an issue as liberals make it out to be. the median income in the USA is ranked at number six in the world. that's not bad at all. so it's not so much that there's a problem with income inequality as there is there is just a lot of really rich people in the USA. that's not a bad thing. yes, in a country as rich as ours, people should have what they need for the essentials of a safety net. but we already got it... it just needs to be run better. we spend more than we need to on healthcare and food and housing... these programs just need to be run better to help more people. so even the rich v poor disparity isn't as bad as liberals make it out to be.

thoughts?

Yeah, I have never really thought that income inequality was an issue. In Saudi Arabia, income is very equal.... everyone is just equally poor. What you should aim to do is increase standards of living for everyone in your country.

Now, there is the issue of people with tons of money corrupting the political process, via soft money spending on politics (like buying a news outlet and then giving super positive press to someone you want in office). That is just kinda indirectly related to income inequality, though.

Rich people create a lot of jobs and are motivated to invest alot. It's the only reason America is such a rich country, because the USA is the one of the few sanctuaries on the planet for rich people. Countries that punish people for producing too much wealth end up with a sharply declining GDP for everyone rich and poor.

See France when they tried 70% taxes on the rich.

All that is accomplished by these countries that punish their skilled laborers and rich get is a whole lot of brain drain. Lots of the smart, able people leave to go to a country that will reward their efforts more.

The median income, after adjusting for inflation, has remained stagnant since Reagan. When you take into account increased costs of living in the modern world, real wages of families are actually worse off now than they have been for decades. The middle class is much worse off than they were in 90's.

Also, median income isn't the most reliable measure. For example, baby boomers are keeping it inflated. as they retire, the median income will fall.

So you should definitely be concerned with income inequality. Economies are not driven by the rich, especially in a consumer economy (like America's). They are driven by how much wealth consumers have. So as the middle class gets weaker and weaker, america's economy is weakening too. Right wing economists would have you believe that it doesn't matter that the middle class is being destroyed. As long as the rich have tons of money, this will somehow make everyone else's lives better. but this is a lie. They just want to amass as much money as possible, and they will gladly lie to your face to do it. I don't understand why people believe them though. Trickle down economics obviously don't work.

Trickle up economics caused the housing bubble.

The housing crisis led by Democrats and Barney Frank who wanted to roll the dice created the whole financial mess, forcing bank loans to those who couldn’t afford them. In August 95,000 homes foreclosed. Fannie and Freddie announced a new policy, no more loans to those that can’t afford them.

Brilliant.

The national official unemployment rate dove to 9.6 percent. In California 12 percent and as high as 22 percent in some areas in the country. The unofficial national unemployment rate around 17 percent.

No cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security retirees in 2010 and 2011 but our Pepsi generation representatives got theirs.
Democrat Hank Johnson of Georgia is concerned that the island of Guam is going to tip over. Johnson is a member of the House Democratic leadership.
Our schools are being dumbed down. Our kids are losing ground in world competition. Our nation is future stupid.
One in seven households is now in poverty. Forty million Americans are on food stamps —

The one field Democrats have succeeded in, trickle up poverty.

Democrats took control of the House and Senate in 2006 during Bush’s last two years of office. Take accountability of what you have created over the past four years and be proud.
The federal government now owns 96 percent of all home loans, health care, insurance, banks and essentially 401(k) planning, GM’s auto industry and Democrat Maxine Waters wants to socialize, nationalize, take over the oil and gas industry. In essence Uncle Sam is not our uncle anymore, he’s the plantation master and we are the government mules.

Don’t let the door hit you on Nov. 2. It’s the economy and liberty, stupid.

i could be convinced, but i would need to see numbers. if median income is gonna fall, there should be a way to measure that. not sure what numbers to look at.

i agree the middle class is the driver of the economy, but as long as we're among the top in the world, i dont think we can say it's bad, at least yet.

it's not good that income has been stagnant, but at least it keeps up with inflation. it can't go up forever. again, i go back to comparing our income to the rest of the world.

It is obviously an issue and it obviously needs solutions, but I am pretty sure there are bigger ones.

socialist nations have the most inequality if you compare the ruling class with the idiots that voted in socialism.

Can you name me a truly socialist nation?

And not just a nation with a nominally socialist government.

Venezuela is a bit of a mess......A recent failed attempt at pseudo-socialism.....Nonetheless Venezuela like everywhere else relies upon a system of social hierarchy, so like all nominally socialist states, Venezuela is not truly socialist.

I struggle to come up with a nation that is anywhere close to being truly socialist.

Find me any place where the ruling class has equal wealth. Inequality is always going to happen unless you are an anarchist. Then Might makes right on an individual level.

Anarchy will quickly revert to hierarchically  factionalism....Which is in fact what we might regard as  popular government, though with a greater emphasis on blood and guts.

Hierarchy is  physiological disposition and socialism is the product of philosophical dreamers.

And Trump and Biden are exactly the same but also somewhat different.....Such is the conundrum.

It is obviously an issue and it obviously needs solutions, but I am pretty sure there are bigger ones.
Nation A has 10000 people that make $10k a year each and 10 people that make $50k a year each.

Nation B has 10000 people that make $10k a year each and 10 people that make $30k a year each.

Which would you rather live in?
