Let's look at the classic 1st amendment case...the Montgomery bus boycott and accompanying marches and protests...all of it was to apply pressure to the government to change an unfair law, which worked.
Imagine if MLK instead boycotted white manufactured baby products and marched in front of white orphanages (Kaepernick and Westboro style) where simply getting attention is more important than achieving a clear goal....there is no way MLK that would have changed the bad laws doing that, and history would have regarded him as a misguided individual that helped spark a race war.
People think the 1st Amendment is designed to allow you to get attention by screaming fire in every building and throwing urine bags at random people when its only purpose was to allow people to apply pressure to the GOVERNMENT... nowadays, people get away with harassment and slander and outright intimidation and extortion of people with zero ties to the government at all. They believe if they burn enough flags, push people around, that they will get their way. Jimmy Hoffa and Saul Alinsky would be proud. I blame Republican politicians mostly for encouraging this trend because some (Flayke) think the rent-a-mobs will stop if they just give them what they want. Obviously it only emboldens them to harass even more to the point you are no longer safe at home with your family anymore, forget eating out in public. This isn't peaceful assembly, it's torch and pitchforks, which almost always leads to blood, Scalise style. It's a sign that the people think the country is already under anarchy with no law and order, and no way to fix things at the ballot box.
