Should I be able to delete my vote as long as it is the voting period?

Suppose I am in a troll/funny debate, then My opponent has less logic than me objectively, then a voter voted my opponent but then realized what is wrong. At this moment, the only thing he could do is contact Mod or report himself. I think I should be able to remove my vote as long as it is in the voting period.

I think I mentioned this to a mod sometime in the past when I accidentally did the same thing. I completely agree. Also should allow one to delete forum posts at any time, not just within 30 minutes of posting.

I agree that voters should be allowed to remove their own vote. I'll have to think about being able to delete forum posts.

However, I don't support vote removal after the voting period. I think it should be limited to the voting period.

I agree with that. Once the voting has ended, not even the mods can remove it.

While I am always cautious of potential abuse, that it could be misused, does not seem to be sufficient reason to deny the benefits to vast majority of members who would use it properly.

This is a very bad idea for the exact reasons you fear it and the reasons why Virtuoso is skeptical of letting it happen with forum posts.

I was speaking just of debate votes. As for forum posts... I've seen too many Facebook arguments end with someone deleting everything they wrote, to try to make the other person look insane.

That said, if anyone wants their post deleted which was never replied to, probably any moderator will assist no questions asked.

It isn't just that, sometimes the one who deleted was the victim in a way and got really heated and said things they regret. In my eyes it's all fine actually, the key is time limit and logs. I like that you can delete your posts in a certain time limit. I like the same thing with votes, the only reason you'd need to delete it long after should at least lead to you requesting the mods to delete what you posted. If it's too bad to even ask them to delete it, then idk what to say.

There are tactical reasons to vote early if you can edit it later anyway, which will influence future votes, 'tame' debaters to not ask for votes if they're winning etc. It's very open to exploitation.

The current mode is requesting a mod to remove it, or to allow an edit of a vote, the latter being a situation I'm in eright now, though have not yet made the request. That works during the active voting period. I don't think a member should be able to delete or edit on one's own.
