Be mindful of spoilers, i think they actually did a good job of showing a progressive character, i dont think what he did regarding romulans is accurate, the picard of TNG would have never done that.

It's certainly neat to see how storytelling has changed. One writer even stated they would not have been allowed to have such on ship conflict between characters.
