They appear to be taking tree branches to their churches and performing some kind of ritual of sorts with them. 
WTF are they doing?  
Its got me stummped.  SOMETHING STRANGE IS HAPPENING.

If it was the case I would've spoken to God or God's when I was looking at leaves.

I think it's called laying of palms, not palm leaves. The laying of palms is a metaphor for head slapping.
