I have George Washington on the wall at home. The first example of what the office was and should be. I also tend to favor ex military presidents. They seem more well balanced and less war like than others.

Colin Powell is someone I would like to see be President.

I find anything about Churchill and Roosevelt interesting but the idea that the let Churchill see him as he was and not the strong persona is telling about his trust in Churchill as a friend.

The pair made the 150-mile journey from Casablanca to Marrakech to stay at the Villa Taylor, owned by a wealthy American socialite, Mrs. Moses Taylor. Arriving late in the afternoon, Churchill insisted that Roosevelt accompany him to the Berber tower atop the villa to view the sunset. The President's assistants carried him up the stairs by making a chair with their arms, and the pair sat and witnessed the sun's golden rays glistening along the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains. It is said that Roosevelt was so taken by the scene that, with outstretched arms, he lightheartedly exclaimed to his dear friend: 

"I feel like a sultan, you may kiss my hand my dear."

Nicely done, Poly. I also think Powell could have been a terrific president. My understanding was that his wife said “hell no”

Powell is very moderate. I think when he had momentum he could have won but now he's too middle of the road.

I think Norman Rockwell's Richard NIxon is a cut above all others- a frankly handsome democratic portrait- a man before you in close consultation.  Boy did Tricky Dick not merit such a splendidly American treatment: I admire the portrait rather more than the man.

Harry S Truman was insistent that no period should follow his middle name, since the S was not an initial but simply his middle name.  Most journalists and biographers have ignored Truman's fairly sensible request.
