Hall of Fame VI
Voting Stage Rules
Welcome to DART’s fifth official Hall of Fame induction process! This thread is for the second stage of that process, namely, the voting stage. During this stage, users (you) may vote for the various nominees in each category (users, debates, miscellaneous) for inclusion in the Hall of Fame. The two nominees with the most votes in each category will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Any user will be able to vote for up to three nominees per category for a maximum of 9 votes per voting user. Voters may choose to vote for less than the maximum number if they choose. You may vote for any of the nominees who have advanced out of the nomination stage. The voting process will close at approximately 10:00pm, PST, on 03/16/25. Votes cast after the close of the process will not be considered.

When you vote, you strongly are encouraged to offer a brief justification for, explanation of, or reason for your vote (one of these per winner will serve as the official write-up unless said winner opts for it to be replaced). Please also bold your votes to make them more visible.
You are permitted to change your votes within reason.

Those nominees with the most votes (3 per category) will be inducted into the DART Hall of Fame. In the event of a tie preventing exactly 3 inductions per category, the voting window will be extended for just those tied nominees and/or they will joint win. Those inducted will be formally honored with entries in the Hall of Fame thread.

There are no prerequisites or eligibility requirements for users to participate in the Hall of Fame voting process, except that they have an account on DART and are not voting/nominating from more than one account. Importantly, please don’t engage in coordinated vote trading and such, as that would be incongruous.

The Nominees
Choose up to three from each category.

Users:

Note:
I know last year we did two from each, but it was announced as three this year, so three is what we'll do. And again, while optional, please submit writeups with your votes, from which we can use the best ones to immediately serve as the official writeups for the winners in the Hall of Fame unless said winner requests a different one (which they may,  we're just trying to streamline to get something in there quickly to avoid delays).

For me votes,

Users:
Honorable mention to Novice_II, while indeed a skilled debater (in spite of the repeated ribbing I gave him), and one of my nominees; I feel Pie, Savant, and Lunatic each deserve to be VTLed so much more! 💀💀💀

Debates:
To be clear, there was no choice but to vote for Free Will is an Illusion; to think otherwise is a delusion.

Other:
US Governors Mafia had the greatest prank we've ever pulled off in one of those games. RM had completely solved the game (full credit where it's due), and I had not made a fake character claim so I was next on the chopping block... Except if you think about it, you can always prevent being lynched by getting yourself mod killed. So I coordinated a rather blatant fake mafia victory by editing moderator posts (like adding "When summoned by the necromancer, you rise and use your power as commanded" to the graveyard), and getting a dead player to pretend to have been resurrected by a completely BS ability I did not have (politicians routinely claim the silent majority will rise on election night to vote for them, so since every educated person knows the silent majority is a euphemism for dead people, I did a play on that by claiming to be a necromancer!). Of course, at the time edited posted were visibly marked as EDITED; which should have been a big clue something was off.

My votes:
Savant, Novice

Savant - I dont think I even need an explanation here. It is obvious. Savant is very active on the site, in forums, in games, in debates, everywhere, and always gives some very clever responses and thinks outside of the box. Then he is an undefeated debating champion. Yes. This isnt someone who farmed wins or just did few debates here and there. He went against many top debaters and won every time. You could even say he obliterated all opponents. This never happened before on this site. Ever. This alone means he deserves to be here, but there are also noble deeds done by him on this site. When RM was getting troll voted and unjustly lost rating due to troll votes spam, it was Savant who made another account with moderator's permission to help restore RM's rating, and also he helped create solution for troll votes. Savant participates in all discussions regarding the improvement of the site, and he brings very high quality arguments which is what debating site needs the most.

Novice - I find this guy to be very good debater, one of top debaters, but one has to admit and admire something else about him. He literally doesnt care. When people insult him, he doesnt care. When he loses a debate, he doesnt care. When people argue with him, he doesnt even care. He is one of those users who seem to not care, even not respond much outside the formal debate which he seems to have mastered over time. He wasnt always this good. His first account got defeated too much for his taste, but he said he will make another account and go on "undefeated run". And he did. He got much better over time to the point where if he accepts the debate, he has already won it. He even forfeits rounds often and still wins. He even weaponized forfeit in debates, to make 3 round debate into a 2 round debate. These are some crazy skills. It goes beyond mere debating. It is like some "grand chess strategy" applied to debating, where every move is already made in advance, and he has already won a debate before he even accepted it. If he accepts your debate, you have already lost.

I'd like to spend some time on the users and other categories separately, so I'll just focus on debates for now:

Debates:
I voted on all 3 of these and the votes themselves can speak to more than I will here.

Benjamin and Bones gave a lot of detailed insight into the issue with plenty of evidence. I was particularly fond of their approach to evaluating that evidence, particularly when sources from each side contradicted the other. It's a tricky issue to cover and I think both sides did it justice.

Savant and Benjamin had a close and intriguing debate covering the bounds of personhood and when it should (and shouldn't) be applied. I like that this branched out from the usual abortion arguments (though those did feature) into a more fundamental discussion that underpins that one, and each side presented compelling points.

CatholicApologetics and Savant both gave me a lot to think about on a topic I barely know anything about. I walked away with a number of useful insights into Catholic dogma and its foundations as well as how to apply the concept of infallibility. Interpretation was everything in this debate.

Savant has contributed a lot to the strength of debates on the site in recent memory. Hell, two of the debates I nominated and have voted for this year have been his. The involvement he's shown on the site in general has been excellent and he remains one of the best and most consistent contributors.
Both Luna and Pie are mainstays of the site. I think their contributions to the forums in particular speak for themselves, and to Mafia in particular, which warrants more attention. Without their contributions, I don't think Mafia would have the kind of staying power it has had on the site.
