Today, March 6, a 40-day boycott of Target kicked off. This event was declared by majority-Black churches in protest of Target's cancelling of its DEI policies. Presumably, most participants will be Black, while at the same time, the average Target customer in Feb. 2023 was "a woman who is 39 years old, White, married, with a household income of $80,000."

What are your predictions of the boycott's impact on Target's quarterly profits? What, if any, social ramifications of the boycott do you anticipate?

It’ll probably affect a few urban locations… and that’s about it. Unless a lot of left-wing Americans outside of the black church get involved, nothing else will happen.

I’m going to guess Target isn’t expecting much backlash, which I think is noteworthy since historically they’ve been left-leaning whenever they get involved in anything political… so whatever data on their customers they have, they really aren’t expecting much of a hit.

Or, perhaps they want to expand their customer base. I’ve noticed a lot of companies are bending the knee to Trump on a few things (Facebook being another recent example) and I’m willing to bet it has something to do with Trump winning the popular vote for the first time. I don’t recall any large companies doing stuff like this in 2016.

I’m glad Target got rid of their DEI practices; it would be nice if they did the same for their pride displays.

Politics aside, Wal-Mart is still better imo.

My first thoughts were that companies were pushing DEI and similar policies because they are stupid. I didn't want to think they were evil and just wanted the world to burn only that they thought they were doing the right thing and willing to see their profits go up in smoke.

Seeing them bend the knee just makes me think they never believed that shit to start with and were just being evil and willing to let the world burn to submit to what they thought was the will of the majority

I don’t think it will have any effect, and I have to wonder why Target is being singled out.

Some of the other companies that are cutting, or cutting back on their DEI programs are Google, Ford, GM, Lowe’s, Amazon, Meta, McDonald's, PepsiCo, Molson Coors, Goldman Sachs, John Deere, Harley-Davidson, Accenture, the US Government, the US Military, and plenty more are coming.

Given the political climate and the attitudes of the majority voters, if the boycott brings major attention to the move, it will probably increase Target’s business.

Yep.

If folk want to be diverse equal and included. Then why do they, at the same time, continue to strive to be the opposite.

Well, there are reasons.

Just saying.

Is 40 days a sort of biblical style thing?

Are they metaphorically casting Target into the wilderness?

It may accelerate some closures in "jogger" neighborhoods, and cause "Target deserts"

But likely not much else.

I think most black people oppose DEI. They still mostly vote liberal because they aren't completely out of the brainwashing yet but no ghetto motherfucker is going to give a shit about that protest and neither will black Republicans and neither will at least 50% of politically active black adults. So this means shit won't happen. Remember when white women protested target for promoting tranny stuff to kids? It won't happen with DEI because nobody wants handouts not even people that need them. They want a fair shot and that's it

Target closed all of its stores in Canada in 2015. The company announced the closure on January 15, 2015, and the last stores closed on April 12, 2015.
