"The White House said Friday that Trump would impose a 25% tariff on goods entering America from Mexico and Canada and a 10% on Chinese goods starting today. The move could drive up prices on products coming from those countries."
Few things can happen here:
1. Canada, Mexico and China reduce its export to USA, causing shortages in USA
2. They increase prices of their products, causing rise in prices in USA.
3. They impose tariffs on US goods
4. Mentioned countries agree to do nothing and to become poorer due to tariffs
5. Illegal import increases
It seems that only 4 is very unlikely.
It is very unlikely that Canada, Mexico and China will agree to fully pay the price which Trump asks them to. I mean, why would they?
Why would they agree to make themselves poorer to make USA richer?
It seems that only a low IQ American can actually believe that tariffs benefit the country who uses them.
Economical experts, who studied tariffs, hold opinion that they are essentially useless because they have to make someone poorer or achieve no result.
