How I spent my lunch break tracking down a CEO

A lot of people are wondering how Luigi knew that the CEO would be where he was when he was. 

I could explain the process but I wanted to replicate the process and display how I did it. I also watched you to keep in mind that Mangione was a bit of a hacker as well, so this method would likely be known to him. 

I will be obfuscsting details to not jeopardize the security of this individual.

The CEO targeted was in charge of a $500 million dollar a year business as I was only working with my lunch break and he would be significantly more accessible than the head of a mega global corporation.  However I had 30 minutes to do my job and Mangione had 6 months of living off grid prior to gunning down Brian Thompson. 

I called up some employee a few levels down from lers call him CEO Bob. So not high enough to be standing right beside him but high enough to know his weekly schedule. I also assumed they hold some sort of weekly meeting. 

Here is my phone call 

Alice: hello this is evil corp, how can ai help you?

Me: hello, this is embarrassing but I am Jim. I am sure you heard of me. 

Alice: not really 

Me: well I am the new finance director and I am supposed to attend the weekly meeting. Here is the thing. I accidentally deleted the email giving the time and location. I don't want to make a bad impression by telling CEO Bob that I misplaced the details can you just tell me when and what time the weekly meeting is?

Alice: I definitely understand that feeling, no problem buddy they meet at the Hilton at 6 am on Thursdays. Conference center A

There is no way the police will ever know how Mangione learned the movements of the CEO, but it isn't particularly hard, even with targets like Brian Thompson.

So this is how you track down a CEO. I did it yesterday to prove a point. I know you brought up personal security as a barrier but then you just social engineer your way into their inner circle and you can still do that in a somewhat anonymous way, but also keep in mind they are probably only taking security to public meetings and such, probably not to walk them from the car to their office though if they are a high level target, hopefully their office building is surrounded by security and man traps that scan for weapons and make sure everyone who is there is authorized to be there, but in many places this isn't done.

You don't think maybe it was that he was going into the annual investors' meeting for United Health group where he was the primary speaker?  Every investor, anyone involved in the investment community, and anyone who read the published announcements would know where he would be at that time.

Nah, it was probably all that really cool stuff you said.

The suspect appeared to be lying in wait for Thompson for several minutes, Tisch said during at a news conference. A senior NYPD official told CBS News that the suspect's arrival before Thompson indicates he knew where the CEO was staying and when he would arrive at the conference.

That has conspiracy written all over it.  

The he got caught so he could crash the economy, its genius, brilliant

He went out the side exit to have a smoke or something. Maybe that was the OSINT. Luigi didn't wait by the front door.

The shooting occurred just outside the Hilton Hotel where Brian Thomson Healthcare CEO was staying. So the shooter was very much waiting by the front door, waiting for the CEO to step outside.

I have heard media outlets report that it was a side entrance and not the main entrance. Either those outlets are mistaken or you are. I am not sure which.

The CEO was approaching the Hotel’s main entrance entrance when he was shot. The BBC does not show a side entrance only a main entrance to the Hotel.
