@Double_R
Obama handed him an unprecedented 75 months in a row of growth, and he totally fucked it up.
I continue to say, the Harris campaign’s greatest failure is that they allowed the myth of the great Trump economy to persist almost unchecked.
That has been the most aggravating thing about the campaign, that and the fact that we don't push back hard enough on immigration, he stopped immigration reform from happening, he shouldn't be allowed to run on that unchallenged.  His economic record is abysmal, he collapsed the best economy any president has ever inherited, and Biden/Harris got it back, how we let them present that oppositely is amazing.  They say, yeah but Covid and I say, yeah, he wrecked the economy AND mismanaged the Covid crisis causing hundreds of thousands to die unnecessarily.
When undecided voters finally break and their top priority is because of the economy it’s almost exclusively for Trump despite the fact that every serious economist says his stated plans will make things way worse. It’s all about a fake nostalgia.
All these guys ever do is make excuses for Trump and make up someone to blame. He's done nothing to make anyone think he's qualified, nothing at all.  They are just so desperate to hide the real issue, all this nonsense talk is supposed to hide the fact that it's a racist movement, and all their blathering to divert from that fact just makes them look stupid.

And they talk tough but are so incredibly thin skinned, let's watch the snowflakes throw a hissy fit about being called what they are, stupid racists.

No, I mean he blocked the strongest and most bipartisan immigration bill from becoming law, he got in the way of solving the problem, he doesn't want to control immigration, he wants open borders so he can blame them on his enemies.

Trump's record on immigration is weak as hell, both Obama and Biden controlled illegal immigration better than Trump did when he was in office, he is nothing but an empty suit, all talk, no action.

Yeah, there's that, and the businessman with only six bankruptcies thing, combined with his abysmal failure on the economy the first time around, it explains why he should be running the economy.

Fact is, they can obfuscate it with lies, but only reason MAGA really has for supporting Trump is he is not a black woman.

@Sidewalker

Former President Donald Trump opposed the bipartisan immigration bill earlier this year for several reasons:
  1. Misrepresentation of Border Crossings: Trump claimed the bill would permit up to 5,000 illegal border crossings daily. In exact wording, the bill included a "border emergency" provision to close the border if encounters averaged 5,000 per day over several days, to not to allow such crossings.
  2. Concerns Over Asylum Process: He believed the bill's reforms to the asylum process were insufficient and would be continued to be exploited by economic refugees, potentially leading to increased illegal immigration.
  3. Opposition to Specific Provisions: Trump and his allies were against certain elements, such as pathways to citizenship for "Documented Dreamers," viewing them as forms of selective amnesty.
  4. Preference for Alternative Measures: He advocated for different approaches, including hiring more Border Patrol agents and completing the border wall, which he felt were more effective solutions and should be implemented first before any other considerations.

These factors contributed to Trump's strong opposition to the bill, leading to its eventual failure in the Senate.

More specifically on what Trump himself stated he wanted regarding immigration reform, here are the key elements he advocated for instead of the provisions in the recent bipartisan bill:
  1. Increased Border Security: Trump emphasized the need for physical security measures, specifically by completing the border wall. He argued that a stronger barrier would more effectively deter illegal crossings than policy reforms alone.
  2. More Border Patrol Agents: Trump called for hiring additional Border Patrol officers to improve on-the-ground enforcement and respond to surges more effectively, advocating for immediate increases in personnel rather than complex legislative changes.
  3. Mandatory Detention: He opposed "catch and release" practices and wanted all individuals crossing illegally to be detained until their court hearings, rather than using alternatives like supervised release.
  4. Enhanced Deportation Policies: Trump argued for more robust deportation efforts for those already in the U.S. without documentation, proposing faster deportation timelines and fewer appeals.
  5. Strict Asylum Standards: Trump sought to make it more difficult to claim asylum in the U.S., advocating for policies that would quickly assess asylum claims with higher thresholds, aiming to limit what he saw as “frivolous” or “exploitable” claims used by economic migrants posing as political refugees.
  6. Stricter Limits on Legal Immigration Pathways: Trump often opposed expanding any pathways to citizenship, including for groups such as “Documented Dreamers,” arguing that immigration subsidies and benefits should be minimized and not expanded.
  7. National Guard Deployment at the Border: He supported the use of National Guard resources to reinforce border security during periods of high crossing activity.
  8. Focus on Executive Actions over Legislation: Trump has often preferred using executive orders to address immigration issues, favoring a more direct approach he felt offered greater flexibility and control.
  9. Increased State Involvement in Enforcement: Trump advocated for allowing states to participate more directly in immigration enforcement, particularly in areas with high rates of illegal crossings.
  10. Continuation of "Remain in Mexico" Policies: He argued for reinstating policies requiring asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while awaiting U.S. hearings, a move he believed would discourage unauthorized entries.

For these reasons and others, it's laughable to say this was a strong bill, even if it might be "the strongest yet"

Trump’s most unregulated excess as president has been his fear-mongering and vilification. Trump could have built on the coalition of working-class voters and libertarian businesspeople who elected him in 2016 by pursuing pragmatic policies that made him seem like a problem-solver. Instead, he has relentlessly bullied his critics and blamed immigrants, liberals, civil-rights activists and other groups for getting in his way. Most critically, Trump ignored public-health experts who urged aggressive action to halt the coronavirus spread, instead trying to persuade the public everything would be fine.

we don't push back hard enough on immigration, he stopped immigration reform from happening, he shouldn't be allowed to run on that unchallenged
Agreed. I will grant them that Biden messed this up at the outset, he was way too focused on pandering to the far left which is not where the majority of the country was. This is one of those issues we should have given them from the start, it was literally all they had at that time. Inflation would come later.

But once Trump killed the bill no honest person can talk. If immigration is such a serious issue there is no excuse to leave it as is for a whole nother year regardless of what you think Trump will do. At that point you’ve given away your hand; you’re not really serious about this.

But again, I agree the Harris campaign did not handle this effectively. Simply repeating that Trump killed the border deal isn’t enough, low information voters need it spelled out more clearly. I think she should have made her campaign pitch to be that “we’ll fix the border as soon as we get Trump the hell out of our way”. If she had delivered that line verbatim at the debate I don’t think they would have recovered.

I agree with that mostly but I think there’s a bit of a contradictory message there. Trump’s handling of COVID was objectively atrocious, but the economy would have crashed either way so going down that path is to grant the idea that it’s impact on the economy was mostly controllable, which in turn grants their criticisms of Biden. The fact is it just wasn’t.

The problem with the right on the economy as Covid is concerned is that they want to have it both ways; they want to blame Biden for everything that happened as a result of Covid while blaming Trump for none of it, as if Covid ended at noon on January 20th 2021. As if it was just coincidence that the rest of the world experienced inflation just as we did. As if putting a hold on nearly everything for a year wasn’t going to have serious lasting affects, especially when considering how many businesses closed down permanently during that time.

All these guys ever do is make excuses for Trump
My favorite is “oh he doesn’t really mean that”. Think of what that says about you that you’re voting for someone who you’re arguing isn’t a serious person. And that’s aside from the utter hypocrisy of those who will then turn around and claim Trump is actually good because ‘look at this good thing he said’.

And they talk tough but are so incredibly thin skinned
They’re still talking about being called deplorables, almost a decade later.

Deplorable definition:

deserving strong condemnation; completely unacceptable

I guess a group being called completely unacceptable and deserving of strong condemnation hits too hard.

Best thing Trump could come up with was "pink haired Marxists", which is just saying its cute. Its not a strong insult. Its maybe even a compliment in a way, because people with pink hair are those who like having pink hair.

Plus, it ensured that no one with pink hair will vote Trump, so probably a poor choice of words.

But nothing will ever match "deplorables" in duration of effect it had on opponent. I think I heard MAGA repeat the word over 500 times even after Hillary lost.

No, immigration was an issue before, and both Barack Obama and Joe Biden handled the issue better then Trump did, and he personally killed the strongest immigration bill we have ever had, demonstrating that he does not want to address the problem, he wants to exacerbate the problem so he can blame Biden Harris for not taking the measures that were in the bill.

This way, he can fire up the MAGA base about the enemy within allowing non-white people to come here from their shithole countries.

Of course he did.

But I don't see the problem with a little physical humor.
Not if you are talking about comedians or carnival barkers, it's good old crude entertainment, but we are talking about the presidency, we need a serious person to address serious problems for the US and the world, this reality TV star presidency that only cares about how he personally appears, and what size his crowds are might be entertaining, but it's not somebody the world will take seriously.  Blowing microphones, talking about the size of Arnold Palmer's junk, obsessing about Hannibal Lecter, conspiracy theories, these are not the campaign speeches of a serious presidential candidate.  They are making a mockery of the presidency.

The more "cadet bone spurs" talks tough, degrades the military, flaunts his affairs with porn stars, sexually assaults women, and blathers about dick size, the more the rest of the world will laugh at us.

And of course, Putin gets the last laugh.

and he personally killed the strongest immigration bill we have ever had...

It’s laughable to call this the "strongest immigration bill we’ve ever had," especially with a blatant cult-like disregard for U.S. history. Comparing any modern bill to something like the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 shows a complete lack of understanding of what "strong" immigration policy can actually look like—brutal, discriminatory, and unyielding.

The Chinese Exclusion Act, enacted over a century ago, explicitly banned Chinese laborers from entering the United States, making it the first significant law to restrict immigration based on race and nationality. This law, which lasted until 1943, didn’t just slow immigration—it barred an entire ethnic group from entry and denied naturalization rights to those already here (source: National Archives). It required Chinese nationals to carry certificates of residence and subjected them to constant harassment, forcibly isolating an entire population and stripping them of basic human rights (source: Library of Congress).

So to suggest that a bipartisan immigration bill with selective pathways to citizenship is somehow "the strongest" in U.S. history is as ignorant as it is inflammatory. Read up on actual history before making such hollow claims.
