It makes more sense to colonize Antartica than it does to colonize Mars.

Escaping Planet Earth is essential for long term species survival.

Mars will be the next stage of an essential learning curve.

Antarctica is always accessible.

Ask a Penguin.

This is only true if Earth becomes inhospitable (which even with climate change by 2100, earth will still be more hospitable than mars).

But if you want to colonize Mars at some point, then it makes sense to start with easier things to colonize like Antartica and then gradually work our way up.  Antartica behaves like Mars in many (but not all) ways; extreme cold, dry atmosphere, but you also have oxygen, an ozone layer and a magnetic field.

True, but Antartica is training for when we actually go to Mars, if we actually go to Mars.

It's getting to and surviving on places like Mars, that we need to practice.

We know how to wrap up warm and get to Antarctica.

Zed, hat is the date for long is long term? If you think in the relative short term --2015 plus 50 years { 2065 }---   humanity will not have annihilated themselves, then will they make it another fifty years { 2115 }?

Mars will be the next stage of an essential learning curve...

Agreed, tho the learning curve starts on how to survive on Earth first.  Im more of an Earth first - ter type person.

Antarctica is always accessible.
Ask a Penguin.

Antarctic Ice is frozen fresh water and water is the basis of carbon based survival. Antarctic is so much easier for humans to access compared to Mars.

You get that Zed. The best thing that jet planes and rockets to outer space have to offer us is slowing the infra-radiation effects to and already rising global temperature.  We learned the depth of this effect in real time after 9/11 in USA, when world wide jet traffic stopped for 3 days for most part, and the info started coming in over the next year, of how temperatures had risen from incoming infra-red radition, not be being blocked by the exhaust fumes of jet plane traffic.

Humanity has yet to ' get real ' ---awakened enough or in time--- ergo, Im pessimistic of getting to Mars much less surviving there, is going to occur before humanities end-date-on-Earth.  Label me pessimistic is fine, as long as it is based on humanities past behaviors

A few thousand people know how to live in Antartica.

That number should be like 100 million before we seriously consider building megacities on other planets.

I want to see people try. It would make for good entertainment. A bunch of atrophied, blind people losing their shit in a tin can.

Perhaps some sort of population management scheme would be more sensible.

Is there really a need for millions more useless people?

The state should not be discouraging reproduction.  More people means more GDP.  Find ways to increase the carrying capacity (like indoor farming or more deforestation for more land for crops).

If you believe we shouldn’t have kids, then lead by example.  But give people the choice to have kids if they can afford to raise them.

I think men should be encouraged to get vasectomies before they have sex, but I don't want to force people to not have many kids.  If you want 20 kids with 5 consenting women in a polygamous family, then as long as you pay for your kids; hey; they are your kids.

When you force the taxpayer to pay for your kids, then it becomes a problem.

How?  It's buildings on permafrost.

Also It is prohibited by a treaty
So get rid of the treaty.  Like, what's the issue with that?

Canada is burning, burning burning again, and if the tundra permafrost melts away, --as it is doing---  the fires by those forests will spell end of humanity, or much closer too it.

I think we went over the  viable level of PPM for  greenhouse gases a few years back, and if that is true, then it is curtains for humanity.

..' person{s} who fart in church must sit  ---attempt to live---   in own pew '.....  2060 proverb

So in times past, people went to the hills,  when the bright light in sky kept getting brighter, as it got closer.

Some may want to check and see if there are any hills in their area. ... /\^/\..... and those who going to the mountain top, may  not coming back.

Hey,

Wouldn't it be great if human beings worked together.

We would perhaps be there by now.
