Sometimes in debates or in the forum people will share pay wall content like washington post. It might be hard to read the story because you get an annoying popup where it asks you to pay for a subscription fee, but there is a way around it and in the following video I show you how to get around paid content with the brave browser, firefox and Windows Edge. https://youtu.be/rhn0wdYLzls

its only a 5 minute video and learning from it will open up a lot of previously unavailable content.

---

NOTICE FROM MODERATION:
Concerns over the legality of disabling JavaScript to bypass paywalls have been raised.
Please do not disable JavaScript for the express purpose of bypassing paywalls!

There are of course no laws which state JavaScript must not be disabled; meaning it would seem to come down to motivation which makes the action legal or illegal.
Further, there are security concerns with JavaScript; and some is so poorly designed that it makes websites utilizing it a complete pain to browse (looking at you in-window pop-up ads). Either of those would be a valid reason to disable JavaScript.

People have went to prison for downloading songs, movies or anime illegally.

Most people don't but this isn't the same thing as downloading a movie or song. If the site wanted to it could put up a pay wall to access the article hich can't be circumvented in this way. They want it to be able to be circumvented this way to help out researchers and students. Both things debaters fall under.

You will find zero movies put out by movie producers which can be watched by simply disabling Javascript.

I would also say the fights the music industry engages in to prevent random broke African people from accessing music is terrible as is their fight to prosecute piracy on discontinued music that only survives on tapes in random thrift shops and garage sales. Music is part of our cultural identity and the fact the music industry would prosecute somebody for pirating a tape of music they no longer are able to monetize is ridiculous

Thats because law goes after those who are noticed and easiest to catch.

They are not gonna patrol the entire internet traffic to prevent few copyright thefts.

The only other option law has is to abolish copyrights.

And abolishing copyrights makes it more difficult to earn money from songs and movies, which after some thinking doesnt sound like such a bad thing.

They are usually interested in targeting platforms. Platforms such as the pirate Bay . If you don't use a VPN when pirating content you may also catch some shit from your ISP .

I dont think pirate Bay is doing anything illegal either . They are a platform for torrenting only and you can put your own work on their and allow others to torrent it if you are a believer in freedom. I know that if  write a book and sale it, I am not really going to go after anyone who piratesit at all. If you like it than biy it afterwords if you can afford it. My brother is an author and he gets worked up about it and I frequently remind him that he shouldn't act like a pussy about pirating and that he should actually give away more free content.

For example he cries that my mom has not read any of his books but he has literally asked his mom to purchase a copy if she wants to read one.

It's stupid. Your 100 closest friends should get free digital copies and you 5 closest family members should get free physical copies. If your stuff is good you'll make your money back from word of mouth

Copyright should be abolished and replaced with creative commons type licenses.

The way I see it, even without copyright, if your work is useful to society, people will pay for it in some way, even if not directly for the product itself.

It's true. To some extent. You basically deal with pirates by making it easier to just pay you. For example Netflix at like $15 a month is easier than pirating every season of all of its shows and it's 2000 movies.

You also make your stuff significantly higher quality for more information take a look at how Pez handled piracy as a good example, videogame companies in Japan also just made it more fun to buy their content than to pirate it.

When you do stuff like that than the only people actually pirating stuff is the extremely disadvantagedthat need to in order to improve the quality of their life.

That one is easy.

Some videos which you have to pay for on pornhub are free on some other popular sites.

Just copy paste the name of a video in google search.
