Often you will encounter trolls when online, so here are the options how to deal with them.

1. Ignore

Probably the most simple strategy which requires least effort.

Simply, dont respond or even read what trolls write, or just change topic back to what it was.

2. Respond with positive
-Positive about yourself
-Positive about the troll
-Positive about someone else or something else

Trolls hate positivity. In fact, giving compliment to troll will often put them off balance.

3. Respond with negative
-Negative about yourself
-Negative about troll
-Negative about someone else or something else

I dont encourage this option, but saying something bad about yourself often confuses the troll.

4. Respond with neutral
-Neutral about yourself
-Neutral about troll
-Neutral about someone else or something else.

Neutral is neither positive nor negative, but it confuses the troll because it cant figure out what are you trying.

5. Respond with irrelevant
-Irrelevant about yourself
-Irrelevant about troll
-Irrelevant about someone else or something else

This is considered trolling tactic, so why not use it against trolls?

6. Respond in opposites

Making two contradictory statements one after another does not make you vunerable to attack, rather it shows that you are aware of options.

7. Negate

-Say that certain logic or information is assumption(unproven).

-Disprove logic or information.

-Outweigh with arguments.

-Make assumptions yourself which cannot be disproved or proved.

8. Turn it into positive

Add facts or assumptions which makes the troll's claim work for you to make you look good

9. Counter-option

Write an option contradictive to troll's claim.

10. Ask troll a question

Trolls are often confused by questions, since most of them dont expect that so are unprepared.

Number 3, hardly advisable.

The thing is to not fuel the fire.

The more nonsense they give, the more sense, maturity, sensible, reasonable, intelligent responses to make to them.

They feed off of tomfoolery. Responding to ad hominems with intelligent, logical views distracts the tactic of berating and insulting.

A troll is a troll for one reason, they want attention. Ignore them , they die inside, realize their worthlessness and hopefully commit suicide.

Ignorance is bliss.

The thing is though, a lot of people enjoy not ignoring and get a buzz out of making a song and dance about it.

Similarly, trolls troll because the get a buzz out of trolling people who like to make a song and dance about being trolled.

So it's actually a win win win situation for all.

There can be a fine-line between trolling and bullying. Everyone has different boundaries depending on the topic.

Bullying is what big kids do to little kids in the playground.

Yeah I know, the word has been misappropriated for the benefit of computer speak.

Ignore, switch off.

Yeah, but people don't want to switch off and can't ignore, because they get a buzz out of being bullied and trolled.

So actually good for the trolling bully and also what the victim wants.

Like I said WIN WIN.

Me, I couldn't give a toss what others do via the internet.

Is harassment a more grownup term? Regardless, kids use the internet.

Some kids are savvy and some kids aren't.

Same as grown up's.

Kids respond as taught.

So if you teach your kids to be victims, then that's what they will most likely choose to be.

Teach them to ignore idiots.

And importantly, teach them that idiots are idiots because they were taught to be idiots.

Trolling can only be countered with counter-trolling.

My experience on forums like this (they used to be much more common) is that small minded people call anyone they disagree with ideologically a "troll." It's a lame excuse to silence dissent. Real trolls, that is, idiots, sort of intrigue me a little bit. If they are interesting. Sometimes they actually are.

I don't care about trolls. If they bother you ignoring them probably won't work. You probably really just want them to go away.

Ignoring works perfectly.

If it doesn't, then one is clearly not ignoring

Whether or not Trolls desist is neither here or there.

That's up to them.

Though personally, I find trolls and responding to trolls, very entertaining.

Sort of, part and parcel of the medium.

It's British!

I keep thinking how odd you people seem. More intelligent than what I'm accustomed to but with an oddness unusual to me. You're British aren't you? I mean not all of you, just more of you than I'm used to.

Yes.

Actually, my head and feet and all of the bits in between could be regarded as British.

And I just checked to see if you had provided a profile.

So you're sort of up there with FLRW and Ebuc, in terms of American parts.

I'm basing this upon your retired status.

He's just a kid since I'm as old as Trump. Well, I'm actually about 2 months younger than Trump.
