They don't care about nominal tax rates if their buying power is going up. Their buying power is going up because they own the useless companies the government is propping up with stolen money.

It's not rocket science. Some of the rich are thieves and they're getting richer because they're stealing it (through government) from the rest of us, and that is why we're getting poorer (all in real value, don't give a shit about measuring in USD).

Yet they brag that the Biden campaign raised far more money.

Ah, I see, the elite (thieving) rich have plenty of money to give back to the hand that feeds them unlike the poor ultramagas who give their last dime to try to save the American experiment from the parasites sucking it dry.

Some people were primed to think the inflation reduction act didn't actually send tax money directly into corporate subsidies...

The whole American political system is about the elite rich.

In fact all political systems are about the elite, who will undoubtedly accrue wealth from their exploits.

I know...

They are part of "them" who are really in power.

And Trump is fighting "them", trying to save us.

Thats why "them" are trying to send Trump to jail.

How many criminal charges is Trump facing? 500?

Trump is modern Jesus!

Let's say you are a business owner and you need to make a 10 cent profit on each item you sell to make the business worth it.

So you maybe sell bread at $1.10 but it costs you $1.00 to get the bread to the customer.

What happens when you add a tax to the bread of  what happens if the bread is taxed at 9 cents a loaf? Do you just accept a 1 cent profit although you have determined it is not worth it?

Most are going to raise the price to make up for the lot revenue. So now bread is $1.20 per package, but then his suppliers raise their prices because they are also subject to the same taxes  which adds 10 cents to supplies so really has has to raise the bread price to $1.30 a loaf. A few things will happen

1. The market will tell him that bread sold at that price will not be bought. In which case he has to accept a tinier profit say 1 cents a lot which might not be worth it because he can just sell his business and get 10% returns in the S & P 500.

2. The market will accept his price but now they struggle to pay rent to feed themselves.

None of these options are good. One causes the market to be more dominatedby mega corporations and the other to make us all poor

This proves more than ever that social issues are more important than the "economy" as others would say. When things are good socially, then yeah the economy becomes an issue but when it's not then the economy takes a backseat.

Well, every increase in taxes results in price rise or buisnesses having less money.

You can either have taxes or print money.

I dont have much faith in government being sustained by voluntary donations.

I do. I think you can make taxes completely voluntary and fully fund government, and simultaneously create a small basic minimum income, with the same exact tax policy.

Correct. The foundation of a strong economy rests with time-tested principles, such as "bettering yourself" and "making yourself a valued member of the herd" and "making sure you provide for your future and your posterity"

Every other social moral leads to an economical foundation of sand.

Lets stick to what has worked so far,

which is taxes and money printing.

Now, the common tax rate is usually 40% for the rich.

I am fine with that.

You are confusing “rich” with the upper middle class. And it’s really the wealthy, not the rich.

Wealthy is the 1 percent, making at least 700k a year but most are making millions per year. They have a lot of passive income and capital gains. The have LLCs and partnerships, and royalties and dividends.

Democrats have support from the upper middle class, those who make 200k or more but less than 700k. These are college educated professionals, not small business owners.

Democrats are and should be looking to make the 1 percenters pay more. These are the people who got a big tax cut from Trump in 2017.

People who make 200-700 got a tax increase from Trump, especially blue state upper middle class.

such as "bettering yourself"
I actually disagree with this. Most people previously didnt put much thought into self-improvement. Marriage and kids just kinda happened. The huge increase in self-improvement is actually a bad thing.
