Very much appreciate the opportunity to do this, RM. I've found quite a few amazing AMVs over the years, and combing through those to find a top 12 is surprisingly difficult. Still, going to give it my best shot.

No matter how many AMVs I see over the years, this one always seems to stand out. Part of the reason there are so many anime in this one is that it's taking the baseline of the Fate series (particularly Fate/Zero) and crafting a unique perspective with it that I haven't seen any other AMV manage nearly so well. It's a marvel of editing.

I think this captures the spirit of the show incredibly well, and showcases some amazing editing skills combined with pitch-perfect choices of song and scene. Another classic in my book.

While quiet when compared with the other two on this list, it is by far the most emotionally evocative. I hadn't seen Anohana before I saw this AMV, but I didn't have to in order to appreciate this amazing work. Not the first time this editor has made an AMV that made me go watch a series immediately after I saw it, but this is her best work, in my opinion.

This Round, I am going for a Satanic/Horror theme. I am aware this may offend or annoy some users so I put it all in one Round. The idea is to be creepy and hypnotising, where you can't help but replay the video in curiosity/awe as if it were a guilty pleasure.

I'll steer clear of theming in this and just focus on my favorites. I'll also be going for quite a bit of variety, showcasing the skills of different editors using different songs and techniques to showcase different anime series (I plan to repeat only one) and movies. That being said, this round will trend more modern in both the selections of anime and the creation of the AMVs.

Kimetsu no Yaiba⌠AMV♫⌡: Awaken

One of my most recent favorites, it's also one of the best showcases of this incredible anime, matched incredibly well to the song. What truly makes this one stand out to me is the use of sound effects on speech from the show throughout the video. The careful selections of scenes and sounds make this AMV pop without being too busy.

Song: Sooner or Later by Mat Kearney

This editor specialized in FMA:B AMVs, and while many of them are incredible, this one stands out. It hits many of the great emotional beats of the show, and does an amazing job shifting between black and white and color animation. I'm particularly fond of the crisp edits in this. Another classic.

This comes from an editor who, like the previous AMV, has specialized in this anime. Again, this one stands out as an emotional heavyweight, a deep dive into the suffering of a character who has endured the worst of the trials the series has to offer over and over again. Song and scene selection blend extraordinarily well in a truly evocative AMV.

This Round's theme is 'badass'.

The entire Round will involve violence. It is an aspect of Anime culture that you would have to be very ignorant to ignore. Japan has always been a very violence-happy nation in its history and has no significant shame in this. You can criticise it but you cannot ignore it if you want to properly grasp Anime culture similarly to how one can't ignore the dark side, lyrically, if they want to properly understand the history and depth of rap culture.

With the final rounds coming on, I'll put the spotlight on a couple of series that don't get a lot of love though two more incredible AMVs, and get a set of well-known and well-loved movies in here.

This is another instance of a series I'd never heard of before I saw this video, but was nonetheless enthralled by the music video. It's a beautiful song that matches perfectly with the scenes depicted of the main character haunted by his past and struggling against something he knows he cannot control. It's particularly well-synced to the music, and I'm especially a fan of its overlaid scenes.

This is an incredible action set piece covering a series that is chock full of incredible fight scenes. It's especially interesting to watch how the editor juxtaposes the fighting elements with the interactions between the girls outside of those fights.

Part of what I love about this AMV is just how well it uses every movie in Studio Ghibli's arsenal, portraying the various ways each movie rhymes with others while also showcasing the best each has to offer individually. The emotional beats are all on point, but what makes it exceptional is how well it portrays the magic of these movies. It's a joy to watch.

Anime: Weathering with You (Tenki no Ko, literal translation is "Child of Weather") 

Down to the final 3. Like I said at the start, choosing a top 12 was a daunting task. I've been saving a rather long list of my favorites over the years, and the last few AMVs I eliminated include some that I would say are among the best I've ever seen. Tough as it was, I very much enjoyed revisiting all these videos, and while some of these editors are either not producing AMV content anymore or, sadly, have passed away (RIP Umika Sayoji), I think all of them (and I include RM's picks in this) deserve a spotlight on their work. It's truly inspiring to see what each and every one of them did with the series and movies they showcased. For those who are interested, among my choices, xGeminii, kumoclouds, PseudoBaka, Kinnsao San and OneBrunou have each posted new videos within the last year. I've subscribed to their channels and am always interested in new posts. For that matter, I had already subscribed to the editor of two of RM's choices, Light Raider, and plan to subscribe to at least a couple of others I had not seen before (looking at JazzsVids and Vichima, in particular).

One Punch Man AMV - Rise (Fight The Fade)

I'll start this round with a bang. One Punch Man showcases some of the best sakuga of any series, and it's all on display here. The effects added by the editor augment each scene without overwhelming it and the music is very fitting to the series. Of all the choices on my list, this is probably the one I would want to watch over and over again the most, demonstrating both the humor and the incredibly hype action that makes this series a joy to watch.

Many of the song choices on this list have been excellent fits for a series or theme, but especially with complex characters, it can incredibly difficult to find a song that fits them perfectly. This is one of those choices, and I was blown away on first viewing. This AMV really captures the tone of the movie, rising and falling with the emotional weight of the scenes depicted, but what sets it apart is just how well it represents the main character and his struggles with his past.

I've highlighted more than a few classics on this list, but I'll leave you with one more. This is one of the few that I hadn't watched in years and honestly wasn't sure would hold up against more recent examples. Yet, it is still amazing. The way the editor matched the beats of the song and the scenes depicted is breath-taking, and while this is the only example of a series I will spotlight twice, it couldn't be more different from Absolute Zero. It's a showcase of the whole series and all its characters, giving you just enough time to soak in each scene. A master editor at work.
