R1: opening statement: Hello everyone, I'm Jody. Welcome to this debate that includes my fellow members naya, mira and jana.
We will debate about parents and their choices for their children.
Let us first define some critical terms in this debate. Parents in most cases want the best for their children, and to ensure this, they are pushed to actively engage in their children’s lives, to guarantee that they are making the right choices.
Some parents go to the extent of wanting to have the ‘upper hand’ even when it comes to taking major decisions, such as choosing a career. Our analysis will demonstrate why parents should lead their children to the right path and choose their career without constraining them. More often than not due to the job security and safety in certain fields, A parent wanting a finer future for their children would want them to pursue a career as such. There can also be other intentions why the parent would want to choose their children’s major including : past experience resulting in qualms, therefore not wanting their children to go through such similar situations. In a study by Bregman and Killen (1999) it was documented that adolescents valued parental influence and guidance in the area of career choice and vocational development. Reduces the pressure on children — Thinking of making a suitable career takes on a serious note mostly during the application times. So, children should leave the choice of their career on their parents and focus on the ongoing exams. They should not be under pressure in anyways. Most teenagers depend their college life and career on their partner if you know what I mean ,and this is completely wrong because depending your future on someone isn’t right ,so parents choosing the career could result in a brighter future.
